And it will be no different than baseball in that it’ll look like shite in Tiger Stadium like it does at the Box.

looks fine to me It will be largely unnoticeable in football with everything else that's on the sidelines during a game.

This thread was not talking about the sideline until the OP was corrected

Are you guys really bitching about what the sidelines are going to look like?
well you see it when you look at the field.

What if it were pink? Would you care then?

The answer, of course, is yes, because we all want the entirety of Tiger Stadium to look great. And the sidelines is a lot of square footage for all to see.

so you think you'll be able to see it real well underneath the 60+ football players, coaches, support staff, trainers, and media all standing on it!? get read dude!

its gonna look great! as long as the field from goal line to goal line isn't artificial, then I don't give a frick what the sidelines look like!

I can't say that I have ever even thought about what the surface was on the sidelines. Its mostly covered in equipment, mats, and players/personnel. Dumb thing to complain about, and not comparable to the Box. The Box turf is totally visible and looks tacky. I get why they did it, doesn't mean it looks good. No one will ever notice in TS

Looks cheap. Probably easier to sell advertising on it.

Nothing screams legit like having your sideline turf sponsored by Dudley Debosier Injury Attorneys.

again, what if the sidelines were pink?

Of course you care what it looks like. Everyone does.

It just comes down to whether artificial turf on the sidelines looks bad.

I’ve got to be honest - I’m not sure I recall another grass field with artificial turf on the sidelines. Maybe I’m wrong.

This will probably be the new thing for teams that have natural grass playing surfaces. If it makes the field drain better and allows the maintenance crew to focus on the grass that matters most I’m all for it.

Just get on google maps and look at the condition of some natural grass fields. If the surface isn’t being replaced, the sideline area is probably in rough shape.

If you think it will look bad or cheap, this will work better than baseball as the sidelines will make the slight difference in green less noticeable.

My only issue with turf is how hot it gets. The stuff they make now is significantly better in performance and appearance than anything I’ve played on.

I'm not a fan of players losing their footing on sidelines because they cover it with a tarp so they don't ruin the "grass". It's much safer to put some type of artificial grass on sidelines.

I’ve never noticed this being an issue, outside of the few sloppy games where it’s all sloppy

All I've noticed is that it looks like they cover the side line with a large tarp... that ends up being a slip-n-slide.

Well, you know, except for the huge areas that are clearly different from the rest.

Other than that, it looks exactly the same!

Do you people realize most of the sideline is covered with plastic on gamedays anyway?

ETA: And the artificial sidelines probably means they wont have to drag those huge arse tarps out for gamedays anymore

i'm all for whatever they need to do to keep the player's footing safe on the field. if that means having a dry, turf-like place to stand on the sidelines in the sloppy weather fine by me...

in fact, maybe only put this on the home sideline....
