The circle marks the northern corner of the city limits of the former City of Lafayette. Maybe the Marquis for whom the city was named should stand atop the pedestal.

Great idea but I cant see leftists agreeing to put a dead white guy in that spot. Armstrong is probably the most realistic and likely to become a financial boon with tourists IMO.

The other option would be a tie in to the WWII museum and a statue of Higgins or Ike or something but again in 2019 with a city run by leftists I cant see a dead white guy getting that honour

I’ll think some aspiring artist needs to cover it with a huge condom.

It doesn't have to remain vacant, but the city has more pressing matters.

Could you imagine the pushback, just on this board, if the city spent a million or something rehabbing the site and putting a new statue up there?

We're going to have to conduct a thorough review of his tweeting history first.

Then rename Lee Circle "Armstrong Circle" and put the American Jazz Hall of Fame and History Museum there in the circle along with a statue of Satchmo holding his instrument

Just paint what's there now black?

It would pay for itself 100 times over if it was Armstrong and you put a Jazz museum somewhere in the circle.

If you agreed to make it Benson I guarantee you Gayle would pay for the statue herself with zero cost to the city.

Tom Benson

Amazing to me that everyone seems to have forgotten that he tried to steal the Saints away in the middle of the night while we were recovering from the storm. It was such a shitty thing to do that even the NFL (who hates New Orleans for some reason) knew it was wrong and stopped him. I can't forgive that.

Meh he saved the city's most valuable asset TWICE - in 1985 and again in 2005. He saved the Pelicans in 2014 and donated millions to the area. He was a tireless advocate of the Superdome and helped preserve one of the most amazing architectural marvels in American history. You could argue he saved 3 of the top 10 assets in New Orleans (Saints 2x, Pelicans, Superdome)

What he tried to do or thought about doing pales in comparison to what actually happened.

Im sure the donation of a statue could be done. Would be surprised if the city commissioned one.

Why not put a fleur de lis on top, that would unite everyone.

Because if they put up another statue, crime would get bad again.

Can't we just finally sit back and enjoy our low NO murder rate for a sec?

Would be a great troll job for Mardi Gras.

That isn’t an area associated with Armstrong, so it might be out of place.
