Clemson Copycat Plays

Last year, Clemson ran a lot of copycat plays that were concepts, formations, and personnel groupings they had never run before, but other teams had success against Alabama with.
This caught Alabama off guard, and they hadn’t prepared for it, which got Clemson off to a monster lead.
Seems like we need to make sure we self-scout and prep for something similar. Could easily see Clemson trying to run Lawrence as John Rhys Plumlee or some of the other looks that gave us issues.

Saban said at halftime during the title game last year that Clemson was running stuff on offense that they had never seen before.
You have to believe they will do the same thing against LSU, especially since they have more time to prepare this time around.
And defensively they're going to be studying the Auburn tape probably more than any other game. We racked up yards against Auburn, but couldn't convert in the red zone - and this is exactly how Ohio State ended up losing the game.

And we’ve done the same thing all year in big games. We will have new stuff for a Clemson to figure out as well. I don’t think Brady runs a scheme as much as he attacks your weakness.

Plumlee would be crossing the goal line by the time Lawrence got the 50...

Yeah gotta think the play bama ran against us faking like they gotplay from sideline and some other holes or tendency that we lean on and are our bread and butter and mess with what we do on offense and defense. We will see it. They are a great team but if we play like we can and play till whistle every play until end of game I think we can come back from any deficiency or keep any lead. Just have to play hard till the end

I don't think people understand how fast that kid is

I’m worried about the speed of Etienne & Lawrence outside the tackle box especially on misdirection plays

Our linebackers play has been fine since Ole Miss. I think they'll play disciplined, and I'm hoping their speed will prevent those big runs/screens.
I think you're going to see Hampton in deep centerfield a lot to prevent big plays.
Got to think that we will be "bend but don't break" with our back 7, given how well the offense is playing and how dangerous Clemson is, also with how our defensive line is getting pressure now.

Clemson can sandbag a lot of their concepts all season where Bama & LSU don’t have that luxury. Neither can Ohio st. That’s why TL was fresh and ran all over a Osu D loaded w NFL talent. If Clemson had a few actual opponents capable of winning Osu May have had some film of TL running

Wait, your saying a good OC shouldn't try and capture what other teams had success with? Especially knowing you can do it with better talent!
There are things that Michigan has run against bama today I would use.

When Joe’s dropping 40-50 yard dimes to Jefferson and co. it doesn’t make a shite how good their red zone D is.

I think there's a difference between copying concepts and wholesale copying plays. It's very common for a team to copy concepts, it's not very common for a team to copy plays.

I love OUR concept, but I would steal the shite out of individual plays and add them to our arsenal if I thought it would help. Especially since my opponent had never seen me use it before.
Makes being a DC a whole lot more challenging. Imagine having to get ready for a team by analyzing film of your opponent and EVERYOTHER teams, every single play for every single game.
Gives the O a tremendous advantage.
I'd venture to say that we could run just about any other team's plays better than they could because of talent at every position.

Brady already mentioned he does this as well. Watches every NFL touchdown and picks some of the best plays to put in the playbook. CEH’s end of half td against bama was one example.

Ah. Good point.
I’ll pass on the memo. Thanks

Imagine playing a schedule so weak that you could finish your regular season undefeated and not having to show % of your plays. I would expect Clemson has a pile of sandbagged plays/formations that they haven’t needed yet.

we couldn't run it in the red zone against Auburn. Clemson does not have that big of a front.
