Y’all are setup. I’m only 250-300 yds from home. My wife and MIL are baking cookies today so I’ll have some for tomorrow.

Northern Ouachita Parish
River Bottom transition to clear cut
Mathews
Rage
Millennium Lock On

1st rut is done and not seeing much of anything

We have a nice one on camera that I hope makes a mistake and pops out in front of me.

Running a little low on venison so a good mature older doe is in play if I get an easy shot

PS - I felt sorry for mallard drakes this morning at our spot in Morehouse - it was on. I think the net is set in Galion / Jones / Bonita area.

How much was it total for you to get your .270 Ruger and scope

About 550 total with Nikon bdc scope. It’s a really good gun, always shoots true, never had any problems with it.

Can't hunt. Got the f ing flu

These are some of my favorite type of days to hunt, too. Cool, light to medium rain. Love to sit in a nice dry box stand on days like this.

Busted my target buck out from my favorite stand this am in the dark. Did manage to find my rut/super early spot for next year while walking out to pull pull a duplicate stand.

Found a place where a wood line between a bean field and a deep ditch narrows from 80 yards wide down to about 15 yards due to washout in levee. Will still be able to shoot into bean field from the tree I picked.

After a few seasons of just starting to get into deer hunting and hunting public land, I finally got my first one. He aint a wall hanger, but after striking out for so long I’ll take it. Dropped dead in his tracks at about 80 yards

Had a great woodie swat. Had our two oldest boykins with me - to work on real world honoring....

Made a big loop on way back trying for woodcock

Got two. Great day dogs also flushed a few hogs. And then......male dog is staying back from a big blowdown. Growling so I think hmmm. Maybe some shooting size pigs in this one - 27 lb female goes into blowdown growling and barking like crazy. Male runs to me I hear another growl inside the tangled mess - first thought - never heard that noise before - don’t like it either - little dog comes out yelping and barking - out come a big arse bear - a little over a dozen encounters here in LA for me this one was by far the closest - little dog chased and barked at it for about 50 yards it stopped - I shite - then little dog lit after burners and bolted bear did same - thankfully

I don’t think it had any intentions of running from dogs until it realized I was there
