Why doesn’t LSU play Tulane in football?

Looking at our future schedule, we are obviously willing to schedule tough opponents - Texas, Clemson, Oklahoma - and in-state opponents - McNeese St., ULM, and Nicholls St. - but why is Tulane no longer an active rivalry? Have the schools been unable to agree to terms, or is there one unwilling to play the other?

Interesting topic 5 minutes after the CFP rankings just came out.

We only play other state schools in Tiger Stadium. Tulane wants LSU to return a home game.

Tulane wants to be treated like a Texas or OU.
they want a “home” game (played at the Dome), and the gate and ticket sales as if THEY were the reason the Dome sold out.

We used to play Tulane the last game of every season. Tulane was in the SEC. Their program languished, then surged again, then slid. The games got rougher--ie., fights. In one game the action stopped as the entire south end of the field was full of fights and brawls. It went on forever until police and coaches got order. After that LSU got less enthused with the game and then dropped Tulane.

Tulane wanted a home-away setup, basically using the LSU fan base to fill their AD coffers by 90% LSU fans filling the Super Dome every other year.

Because Tulane brings nothing to the table deserving a home and home series.
LSU has offered to renew the series as long as it’s played in Tiger Stadium. Tulane thinks they can do better, so more power to them. Let them do better. In the meantime we alternate an appearance in Death Valley amongst other state schools. And LSU is currently ranked #1 in the land, while Tulane’s program is just rank!

Because they wanted to play home and home series and the home team would keep all revenue from the game. I don’t remember who our AD was at the time but he laughed at them because Tulane was still playing their home games in the dome. They averaged a few thousand fans a game. When they played LSU the game would sell out. Our AD said that dog won’t hunt

The real reason is because Tulane is greedy.
When we played in New Orleans, Tulane made it so the LSU ticket was only available to season ticket holders. So, in order to get a ticket (outside of the standard allotment) was to buy a full set of season tickets.
LSU fan base complained for years, they refused to budge, and the series was canceled.

We did renew the rivalry about 10 years ago but TV, conference requirements, and money caused us to terminate it.

It was one of the oldest rivalries in the country played since 1893. If I were governor they would absolutely play every year home and away and the hell with money. Some things are more important than money. And though small, Tulane’s stadium is a very pleasant place to watch a football game.

Because in 1950 they stole Mike the tiger. They also painted his cage Tulane green.

They can’t come to terms. Apparently, the problem is the home and home schedule issue.
