You know when it's a good idea?

When you've worked with someone for a very long time and you pretty much know what they're like. You think they could be the one and you could see yourself marrying them. And you know that they probably feel the same way. And you discuss it with them, but lay out that you don't want to jeopardize anyone's job, but you don't want to miss out when it comes to being with them. And you find out they do feel the same way.

But keep in mind that even in that perfect scenario, there's still a good chance of you fricking up your career.

Worst case scenario: My relationship ends and I'm an old man who has to bury his wife of several decades.

Half of all marriages end in divorce

This is a bullshite stat.

Most first marriages are successful. People that get divorced tend to do it more than once which skews the stat. They also take divorces this year and divide it by marriages this year....which is also stupid.

I've seen a number of marriages end because people met someone on the job they liked better than their spouse

It happens more often than you think it does. Especially if you work with individuals from countries that have arranged marriages.

Exactly. That's why I don't think it would be asking too much for her to resign.

It’s bad enough driving past my ex-wife’s house every morning on my way to work. I can’t imagine having to work a job with her 8 hours/day.

I went out with 4 different women from the same workplace..Only 1 backfired..but everyone knew she was a loony, well except for me until after we broke up. None were from the same department that I worked in.

I think we had 5 marriages ended by workplace relationships at my last job in an office of about 150 people.

I prefer the euphemisms "Don't get your meat where you get your bread" and "Don't dip your pen in company ink" .

Poor analogy. It’s more correct to say, “don’t stick your pen in the company ink”.

Shitting where you eat refers to cheating on your SO in the town in which you reside.

I secretly dated a woman who worked for me until we were outed while at an LSU basketball game Shaq's final year. We had the worst damn seats in the Assembly Center and still wound up on TV.
Anyway the boss made me fire her. I felt so bad I set her up in her own business. The business took off and 23 years later we're still married.

Because 9 times out of 10 it’s a bad idea in most companies....7 out of 10 bad idea if it’s a large company with lots of divisions and locations with mobile employees and it’s easy to not see them if you don’t want to.

I think my actual advice to men would be don’t lead on, deceive, run game, etc..to co-worker. Trying to talk your way into a co-workers pants without being interested in an actual relationship is a horrible idea.

If you’re the type of guy who feels the need to hit on every woman you see just to see if one takes the bait, just don’t....it won’t end well.

If you really think someone maybe the one for you, and you’ve dated enough to know exactly what you do and don’t like, and you’re not going to cheat (ever), then sure, go for it....but you better be in it for the long haul, or break up as soon as possible once things look not right. Oh, and don’t be the jealous type when she starts banging your other co-worker.
