Why do people say “don’t shi# where you eat” when referring to office dating?

Say you have a relationship with an office worker, things go south and she runs to HR to complain about you and makes things up. You're fricked because its her word against yours.
Basically its a bad idea because if the relationship takes a bad turn, it becomes a massive liability for you.
The concept being that there are thousands of women who you don't work with out there that you can date. If your only option is someone you work with, that's a reflection on you.
