I paid $750 on my 1 acre lot and 1,500 sq ft house last year. $6,000...yikes.

Do you know anyone who has access to those tailgate traincars that you could get me into? That would help facilitate my move to SC.

thanks in advance

There's one for sale for $175,000 right now.

LINK

Own your own little piece of mediocre football heaven. You'll actually be zoned for really good schools, and there is a Bojangles and Waffle House within walking distance.

I was last on that patio of the 2016 football season watching Packers games. Someone brought a few cases of Spotted Cow to share.

Hell, I was probably there at the same time.

From the halftime raffle:

"A custom bottle opener, but to make sure it works we're including two ice cold bottles of Spotted Cow (crowd cheers). You can't buy it in Illinois but you can win it in the Will's halftime raffle"

You got out at the right time. My buddy (who posts here sometimes, bruco) used to own a half million dollar condo near the Southport Corridor. I think he said that after the last property tax increase his property taxes would've been around $12,000.

Looks like it’s about $11,500. Just checked. As someone else mentioned I occasionally gets pings of sadness when Chitown sends me a pic from wrigley or some patio. But it disappates quickly when I think about the taxes and winter, among a few other things.

Don’t regret moving to Charlotte 5 years ago. It’s certainly aided by the fact that I would have lost my old job within a year and I was able to get a nice raise when I moved down here.

Honestly I could maybe handle the increased taxes if I felt the spending was actually addressing the problem. But the problem just gets worse and there is no shared sacrifice of looking to scale back the pensions. It’s all just more revenue into the pit with the city and state being in no better fiscal position.

All those new taxes plus weed and gambling money and they still want an income tax hike. Insanity.

And next year they’ll be back to the well for more. Guaranteed

An n of 1, but the GFs cousin lived in Chicago for long time and took a job with Amazon. He doesn't like Seattle anywhere as much as he liked Chicago.

(Forgot to mention in my list that Chicago also has the most beach volleyball courts of any city in America, so add that)

I’ve lived in both and in Atlanta as well.

Chicago blows them out of the water as far as quality of life goes, especially in the summer.

The fiscal situation is becoming too much, though. I’ll be gone from the city within two years. It’s been a good run, though.

Chicago is cool, but you realize the city is literally the perpetrator of every single shitty thing about the state, right? Every single one of them, without exception. And that city you love will never stop bleeding the rest of the state along with the ones in the city.

That's fricking robbery. You buy a home, the government will sell it from under you unless you continue to pay $6,000 a year.

4 governors went to jail? Jesus. They didn’t keep enough friends, apparently.

The other 3 just haven't been caught yet, though I do think Rauner was legit. But I don't even think he really tried to win reelection. He had probably had enough and just feigned interest in a second term.

These guys when they get indicted become untouchable though. And they will usually get dragged down by the Feds, which even the Chicago machine won't frick with (Alderman Ed Burke is seeing this now).

By the way, Madigan isn't done pushing more taxes out.

Now that he controls the State again, with Fatass as Governor, Illinoisans are going to get double fisted, and not 1 penny of their actual billions of debt will get paid, not one penny, but a shite load of new taxes.

Springfield would never try to work with him, and as he tried to get those pensions in order, all they did was shut down anything he tried to push.

So, to the people, they would claim Rauner was useless, which is true, because he couldn't pass or get anything on the books, as Mad Mike and his crew would shoot it down immediately. If they couldn't make a buck off it, they weren't interested.
