He's doing this. He listed the negatives and said that they are starting to outweigh the positives so he might want to leave. That's looking at the city in its totality.
It is. But not when you're advocating for it being the best city to live in the US at the same time.

He said it was the best in the warm summer months.

Just stop. You're being a moron.
I said
1) I fricking love Chicago
2) It's the best warm weather city in the country
3) The other shite is starting to push me out
How you took that, along with everything else in this thread, to mean that I'm advocating Chicago as the best city to live in is simply dumbfounding.
It's clear you've transitioned from missing something to playing stupid. Just admit you didn't see that part of the original post and move on.

I don't know about Boston because I've never been, so I will withhold judgement.
It's an amazing place as a place, but a whole lot of the people really are big giant assholes and proud of it.
In my limited experience, Chicago people are generally nice, even the drivers. There's way too many cars on the road near or in Chicago, but the drivers will really try to cut each other some slack. And on foot, they're all good.

Actually, fall and spring in Seattle is also pretty nice. Highs in the mid 60s/high 50s, lows in the low 50s/high 40s. Rains about a third of the time during those months.
that cloud cover though

Bensenville was being overrun with illegals 15 years ago.
Asked for a steak burrito and got a brain burrito instead. Chick at the counter was 20 at most and didn't speak a word of English.

I had a relative who moved to Seattle after living in southern Spain for three years, with 300+ days of sunshine. It was an adjustment. Not only is it cloudy a lot, but it starts getting dark at 3 in the afternoon during winter.

An n of 1, but the GFs cousin lived in Chicago for long time and took a job with Amazon. He doesn't like Seattle anywhere as much as he liked Chicago.
(Forgot to mention in my list that Chicago also has the most beach volleyball courts of any city in America, so add that)

Metra is great, the CTA not as much
Yea. That' makes sense. The Metra wasn't the problem as much as connectivity.
Although, I did laugh at the fact that in 2019, a human still walks up and down each card with a wad of cash for change for the 2 or 3 idiots who don't use the app or have an ID card(poor people and certain employees). Dude even carries a lockable brief case to make drops and shite during the shift.
Funny sidebar, yesterday we boarded the QUIET CAR from Union to Bensenville. I thought my girlfriend was fricking with me to shut me up, but there was a sign and all. And Mr. Ticket Taker even told me "you're on the quiet car". I'll be damned. Learned plenty this week

WE SAW THAT. During a Lyft from Navy Pier to Wrigley Monday afternoon(Cubs fans are absolutely NUTS BTW). But that beach along the way and up to Lincoln Park. TONS OF Beach Volleyball courts.

Its fricking gorgeous. We used to be down there every weekend partying, playing volleyball, swimming. And the talent down by North Ave beach is unreal. Castaways during the summer months is . It's the Lake Michigan Riviera/Third Coast.

Yep. The first day we were there Friday afternoon, We were amidst droves of 18-25 yr olds heading to the beaches. They were on our Metra into town even.
Then they all headed towards the lake. We were going that way to see the Bean and Lakefront. That's where I saw a couple of college dudes got out of a Lyft at the Lakefront carrying nothing but a fanny pack and a 30 pack of beer.
I decided then that I like Chicago. Nothing like pretentious NYC or drab LA.

I don’t think anyone disagrees that it’s awesome for a couple months in the summer. But the reason it’s awesome is because everyone has been cooped up and snowed/iced in for 8 months of the year.

The people here are great. Fun, friendly people.
And the majority of the young professionals all live within a relatively defined area from downtown up through essentially Irving Park on the Northside. Unlike a place like NYC or LA where they're all over the place. shite, I complain if I need to go the west loop, which is about 6 miles from my place

Unfortunately for me, I have to choose between LA, NYC, SF, Chicago for my job. Until Chicago becomes worse off than any of those cities, I'm staying put.
At least we have legal weed and sports gambling now.

quote:You're wrong on Seattle in those months, it might be the best place in the World in that period. Long beautiful days, no heat, no bugs. Moved back from Hawaii to get back for the summer once.
Seattle, Salt Lake City, San Francisco (outside the poop zone), Denver, Phoenix, Boston, NYC, and Atlanta are all better than Chicago.
Not from May-September, and I say that with confidence

is this for all of Illinois, or is this mostly Chicago specific taxes/fees?
I live in DuPage county and yes I pay a lot in property taxes, but to counter that, my kids can go to one of the best public school systems in the country and the parks around here are pristine
