My two are very smart, but God they are incredibly stubborn. I think that's the issue lol.

My buddy has a border collie growing up. Dog was bipolar. One second she was fine. The next she wanted to bite your feet off.

Smartest dogs I’ve ever been around

Right now we have a Rat Terrier, a Boxer & a Beagle
Beagle is stubborn & ornery
Boxer is goofy & doesn’t listen
Rat is by far smartest of the 3

I don't see my Cane Corso on the list but Mastiff and Bull Mastiff are near bottom of the list which are closest and no way represent my Xena. She was very easy to train and picked up commands with a reward/ repetition training system in the 5-15 rep range and now responds on command with positive recognition only.

My Yorkshire terrier is freakishly smart. I did not expect that. I think it has to do with me working from home and interacting with the dog constantly/playing games/teaching her tricks. Also unbelievably obedient and SO much emotional intelligence. Just the perfect house dog /friend/buddy. I like almost all breeds but I love a good full size Yorkie and terriers in general.

Currently have a golden doodle. Boy is pretty smart when he isn't going super hyper with puppy energy.

I had a border collie/German shepherd mix. Her intelligence was mind boggling. She could communicate well, and was very intuitive

Aussie Shepherds at 69 - too low and not consistent with other lists.

Think about it, the criteria here is not independent problem solving "get yourself out of a trap"

Herding dogs are problem solvers which is why they rank high on the intelligence scale.

Agreed. Rat terriers/jack russels can’t be touched when it comes to intelligence. Far and away the smartest I’ve been around.

This list is just a basic generalization. It's like saying the Dutch or Argentinians are dumb or smart.

Each dog has their own level of intelligence.

Also, this study seems to base their intelligence level on how subservient they are to humans.

That would be like saying the smartest slave is the one that picked cotton the fastest.

My badger dog is smart as a whip, but way too stubborn to give a shite about tricks or commands.

I have 5 rotties.

3 AKC Females, 1 AKC male, and 1 fixed male muttweiler.

They are smart yet can be stubborn. Dominance is a must.

The fixed male muttweiler I have loos like a rottie and large German shepherd mix. Smartest most obedient dog i've seen.

You can't lure him away from me with food. If I say bring your arse he brings his arse. We can have a house full of people and if I don't let him in with me while I shite he will sit at the bathroom door waiting on me. he is never more than 5 feet away if I am home.

Right. I have 2. They’re hilarious. It’s not that they don’t know what you’re saying, it’s that they don’t give a shite.

2 Goldens, same parents, different litters....one is smart as hell, the other is short bus but the most lovable dog ever. I'd say on an intelligence level the older one is an 8 and the younger one is a 4. I really think (at least this breed) it can vary dog to dog.

I prefer to think my shihtzu is like my daughter. They understand everything. They just choose not to obey because they are above direction and menial tasks....
