Ironically, Rice also tied Texas that season (the only regular season blemish on Texas's record that season).

Yep, Rice was a tough team in the Sixties. Good memories.

Coach Hatfields triple option was tough back then. He's got better athletes now so expect a dogfight Saturday

Let me get this straight - your question is whether anyone was alive in the early sixties? The early 1960s. That's your fricking question.

Anyone still alive that saw Rice beat LSU?

Rice had a hell of a good "college" QB in the mid 1960's named Robbie Shelton that gave LSU nightmares. He was very short but very Manzielesque.

It is amazing how many consecutive years that LSU played RICE.
RiICE gave LSU fits in the early 60’s.

It was 1961. Rice won 16-3 in the season opener. My dad told me on that night that it would be the only game the tigers would lose that season. Damn if he wasn’t right.

Between the last game of the 1961 season and the Orange Bowl against Colorado is when the Louisiana legislature passed the bill allowing LSU athletes to play schools that had black players.

I happened to be in Houston at the time and was surprised to see that there were more LSU fans in the stadium. I also recall that the Owls had a decent field goal kicker who was a starting offensive lineman. The Tiger fell a long way since that Carlos Carson game.

My father played on from 1960-1962 on LSU team.. He said Rice was always a tough game then. LSU totally dominated Colorado in Orange Bowl.
