Why does a state at the bottom of the education rankings with only 4.6 million people have like 15 public universities? Two public law schools in one city (4 total with Tulane and that other school in NOLA), two public med schools, a shite ton of community colleges. Not to mention all the private universities the state must be subsidizing. It has to be bleeding the state dry.

Seems to me to be a scheme to give jobs to school administrators and liberal professor propagandists

Need to close a lot of those schools and consolidate and make college admissions really competitive.

This is not necessarily true as some states have just as many collleges hidden in the fact that there are satellite campuses spread out across the state some with 4 year programs at the satellite campus.

For example, the University of Southern Mississippi is located in Hattiesburg, but has a satellite campus in Gulfport/Long Beach. So, in the numbers game is this 2 universities or just one.

Florida and Texas have a number of these university branches. I guess we don’t hear about them since many do not field athletic teams or play in Division I or II sports.

The only 4 year schools that are worth attending are LSU and Tech. The rest should be JUCO's. The best education available is Tulane but the cost is too high for most people.

Because the public school system churns out tons of graduates who get into the real world and only then realize they received a shitty education. The minimum wage jobs they are barely qualified for aren't appealing, so they go to the local community college.

Lots of poorly-educated adults = high demand for better education

Based on what? Tulane is where people from the northeast that don’t get into Ivy leagues go to party for 4 years.

I’d start with closing USL

The university of Louisiana is the flagship school of Louisiana. The failing LSU should be shut down if anything. It’s nothing but a safe space

They buy a lot of political patronage jobs, which is why we'll never get rid of, or consolidate, them.

Pretty much only keep LSU, UNO, and LA Tech, that way you got a presence on each side of the state. Close the rest.

You realize that between Lake Charles & Lafayette metro areas about 700,000 people reside? That’s a good chunk of the state. Either ULL or McNeese would have to stay

Based on every ranking of quality of Universities nationally. Nobody in La. ranks above them.

1. Close Southern and Grambling. Let there be blood.

In the state with the most or second most % of blacks I doubt that will happen. They need at least one HBCU to go to. Grambling needs to go. Southern is not some academic powerhouse but it’s much better than Grambling.

Acadiana must have a univ b/c it's so big

but the rest of the state only gets one for all of it

The Acadiana region gets a school, and the Northern Louisiana region gets a school. Then there are two other schools located in the two largest cities in the state.

Those rankings don’t mean shite. They’re a degree mill just like all these other places.

During those decades when the state treasury was flush with cash, it became a status symbol for cities to have a 4 year university. Legislators went after them with a vengeance. Now the money is gone and we can't get rid of them, but no city or region is going to willingly give up "their" university. Thank the politicians.

Louisiana is a big believer in socialist policies

we have lots of poor people and they 100% believe in taking money fro others to help the poor. the college thing is just one example of redistribution

when they talk about closing campuses, you'll see both sides of the issue. on one hand, you'll see them talking about "opportunities for the poor" while on the other hand, you'll see them talking about how these colleges are economic engines for the local area

it's all just re-distributive philosophy. a way to steal money from the upper middle and upper class to redistribute elsewhere. this belief system is why LA will never progress and with our demographics, is essentially doomed

As LSU caps its enrollment the rest will rise
SELU the fastest growing school in LA
I saw it in Texas when A$M capped their enrollment
Sam Houston blew up
If the state does not grow...we have way too many
