I’m sure being older impacts my position. But if your argument is technology has not skewed and desensitized today’s youth and negatively impacted mental health then you are an idiot.
In my opinion, video games give kids an outlet when they might otherwise do things in the real world. Am I an idiot for thinking that? I have just as much evidence as you do.

So someone is an idiot for simply not believing your theory/opinion? I'm not saying you're wrong. But before I take your opinion as fact I'd like to know your qualifications or at least read a frickin' abstract.

lol they choose that

lol they choose that
Also, of the kids that "choose" to go to war, how many do you think had no better options in life?

Can we agree that soldiers sent off to war, which may have real life scenarios like the ones on the VR/simulations, May experience PTSD from those situations?

not getting into an argument over this. But everyone has options. And as far as military goes, that is one that should be valued and appreciated

And we also agree that biologically and physiologically we are sending adults into these situations who sometimes come back with PTSD?

Are you trying to draw a distinction between "kids" and adults?

You are wrong. While video games have not necessarily been linked to violent crime, excessive game play has been conclusively linked to aggressive behavior.

Doesnt everyone have options? Anyone can choose to attend college or not.
Anyone can choose to get a job... or not
anyone can choose to join the military.. or not

"You are wrong" followed by zero evidence.

While video games have not necessarily been linked to violent crime
quote:Well this seems obvious, doesn't it? Like I said, video games give kids an outlet. It isn't surprising at all that there is a correlation. Now can you find a study that proves the direction of causality?
excessive game play has been conclusively linked to aggressive behavior.

Is that the angle he's going for?

Happy to hear this dude is dead, tbh. As he said after his sociopathic rampage, all sympathy to his remaining family. May they somehow find peace through this.

quote:Sure. And can you agree that life circumstances make some options far more attractive than others for different people? Can I go so far as to say that these circumstances can make some options so infeasible as to be hardly an option at all?
Doesnt everyone have options?
quote:For some (many?), the best/only path to college or a job is via military service. That's all I meant by "no better options".

Anyway, let's put this side argument aside and get back to the other side argument: people have done crazy evil things since the beginning of time... what role do video games play in today's evil? Is it positive (by providing a safe outlet for aggression) or negative (conditioning kids to accept violence as normal)? If we look at it objectively, most of the evil in the world today is being committed by people who likely have never played a video game at all.
