After federal troops pulled out of the south, Southern whites used intimidation and violence to deter many blacks from voting . This included lynching , castrations and other vile acts. It was this way that whites where able to regain much of the political power that had been stripped after loosing the civil war. without federal troops to enforce free and fair elections, whites were able to keep blacks marginalized for many decades after reconstruction.

Yep. It is really horrible the way Democrats treat black people.

Many blacks had to return to their former lives of indentured servitude as sharecroppers.

This is completely out of place with the rest of your post. Exactly what other jobs do you think the majority would have been able to fill?

Those pilgrim women who...
who braved the boat
could cook the turkey, but they...
they could not vote.

They were sufferin' until suffrage.

Then the 19th Amendment struck down that restrictive rule.

To piggy back off this topic, I get a laugh when I hear some liberal say “The Founding Fathers didn’t intend for people to have machine guns when they wrote the second amendment. They only knew about the musket.”

Well, if we’re using that line of thought, they didn’t intend for Shamekwa from the projects to vote either.

It's a pretty stupid qualification to be honest

If someone makes 150K a year and pays plenty of taxes but prefers to rent for mobility reasons you think they shouldn't be allowed to vote?

Alright then. How's about only letting people vote who net paid federal taxes in the previous year?

I’m cool with some sort of qualifier. I actually think you should have to take a test that shows you have a very basic understanding of civics. If we want a better government, we should have better voters. Of course that’s Pollyanna and will never happen considering the Left even hates the idea of Voter ID, even if that ID is free and they come to your house and make it for you.

you gonna catch a lot of old retired conservatives who deserve the right to vote but haven't necessarily made a positive income in the past year...

I'd propose that if you've voted 10 times, you're then eligible for life

It blew my mind to hear it stated black black men got the vote like 45 years sooner than white women. I think I knew the approximate dates and all, but I'd never heard the facts pieced together like that. Ever. And I'm a political junkie.

It was due to the majority of women not wanting to vote. It was just their mindset at the time. Suffrage was a loud minority. A lot of women felt they shouldn't have a say in matters of things like war and finance when they didn't actively participate in it, hence they wanted to leave that responsibility to men. It's not as ominous as it's made out to be, it was just the culture of the time.

Exactly! It's so laughable some people are unable to admit that and recognize the intentions of the Founding Fathers.

it's actually a pretty good example of it. The outside is scary, so they rather side with the captors and be protected. Captivity is known, where as freedom is scary.

If you believe in reparations, should po' white trash that can link their dna to early settlers get some too?

And honestly, what would you rather do:

1. Trek through unexplored jungles having no idea what your next meal, water, snake, predator, scalping, demon, etc is on the other side of your next machete swing...hoping to find something to keep you going until tomorrow.(naked and afraid)

2. Working hard manual labor with guaranteed food, water, shelter.

Think about it really. Plantations were just factories and like others stated, people went right back to doing what they knew because treking out on their own like the settlers did was apparently not appealing enough than the safety of the situation their former masters created for them.

"Oh they raped and whipped".....and then said "thank you master may I have another"?

I'd rather work for the "man" than get eaten by wolves after being scalped by an Indians I couldn't out run because I was too emaciated from lack of food and water....but that's me.

It's not stupid... Either that, or a basic competency test. One that shows a -basic- understanding of how our political system works and our country's history. God damn, -something- to avoid the fools without a stake to claim to keep it from being WRECKED by just anyone that will vote selfishly. i'm open to ideas... but something!

if you give a shite about the COUNTRY, and not just yourself, then you should be able to vote. if you don't give a shite about the country and ONLY care about yourself, then i think you shouldn't have a say so in the direction of..... the country.

that's what i'm saying. Sounds like a stupid idea to me. Could be limited to people who actually pay taxes and any one on SSD and or get EIC's not be allowed to vote.

but muskets only killed one at a time and took a while to reload. Thus making killing en masse much harder.
