My kids went to a school that had a number of really dumb rules and seemed to continue to make more up as they went.
Girls were not allowed to wear tights or leggings under their school uniform shorts on cold days. Sweat pants or yoga pants under school skirts were also taboo. The only permitted long wear was a very "manish" khaki pants that almost all female students abhorred and refused to wear. All of this was vigorously "policed" by a female dean of students who only wore men's tailored pants and sweaters.
No hoodies allowed for anyone. I guess too many "gang members" at the upper middle class Bible school.
They were Nazis about sweatshirts. Only the"current year approved school" sweatshirt was allowed. Not any of last year's acceptable ones, or those from any of the athletic teams or clubs. One particular sweatshirt sold only by the school. On the coldest days of the year, female dean of Students made kids take off their "illegal" sweatshirts even though they had no other approved school outerwear to use and school store was not open.
No black accents allowed on any team uniforms (although everyone was beginning to use this) since it is "Satan's color" (quote from an upper administrator).
Could only attend an away day playoff game if you had a certain GPA and had NO disciplinary history (including detentions for tardys, shirttail out, any dress code violation, etc.); often kept 1/2 upper school from supporting volley ball in state tournament.
Cheerleaders were not allowed to wear uniforms to school on game days; had to change immediately before pep rally (only 4/football season);reason: it showed preference to one group over others! LOL

There were lots of other dumb rules that the kids would come home and either laugh about because they weren't going to follow them or bitch about because they couldn't get around them. All the kids thought the administration were totally out of touch and just flying by the seat of their pants.
The biggest hypocrisy was getting busted by a failed drug test. THe kid would get expelled on the 2nd failed test. Then the parents would have a meeting with the Headmaster, write a check and mysteriously come back to school in some capacity. Meanwhile, most of the kids that were using were getting someone else to pee for them or using a WhizANator and coming up clean while staying high. And laughing at the Admmins all the time.

Skirts down to knees.

We had to write a senior history paper on topics selected by vfw. I refused. Had to score A on final to graduate.

We got to experience this shite at our house. Our daughter (no pics) was getting hit on by this football player all the time. She rejected him so he took to picking on her.. a lot. Until one day, she got up in class and punched him right in the ear. knocked his arse on the floor.

She got suspended. We didnt care. I told the principal that if it happened again, she had my full permission to hit the a-hole again.

I had the experience of being in principles office being told I would be suspended for standing up to bully.

I yelled at him. Rejected his Dumbassery and asserted my right to defend. He let me alone with a warning.

I never understood the rule of having to ask permission to use the bathroom. Half the teachers said no anyway. Would the teachers rather kids just piss their pants all day? fricking stupid.

Zero tolerance cell phone policy. I understand not pulling it out during class, but at lunch, break, before or after school was a bit excessive.

Public high school from 05-09 & neither guys or girls could wear shorts.

They were afraid the girls shorts would be too short & the guys would be too long & baggy.

I went to Catholic school and we wore khakis and brown shoes every day. A few Fridays a year near the time of our fair/festival you could wear the fair T shirt, jeans, and tennis shoes. The thing is the HAD to be sneakers. I wore light brown timberlands since that’s what I generally wore with jeans in 1996 or 97 and got a detention. My only detention was because I didn’t wear my Nikes.

During deer hunting season, you could bet that at least 1/3 of the cars in our school parking lot had guns in them

I guess I was lucky that we had no dumb rules in my high school (00-04). The dumbest thing I could think of is we couldn't drive our car off campus during lunch, we had to either walk or stay on campus.

I went to an all girls Catholic school. The most ridiculous thing was we could get in trouble for things we did on the weekend. Like if someone saw you at a party drinking or smoking a cigarette, you would answer for it come Monday. But looking back, it wasn't that big of a deal.

My husband went to an all boys school. The kids go to public school. Their rules are much more ridiculous. They can't use the lockers. They have to carry everything with them. It's dumb. But he went to pick up my daughter one day, and there was a kid cursing out a teacher in the office, another with a can of skoal in his back pocket, and the secretary told him to text my daughter to let him know he was there. He was like what the hell is going on in school these days? I kind of wish schools kept the ridiculous rules and had real consequences for breaking them.

Yeah this reminds me that if we got caught doing shite off of campus we would get in trouble. Couldn’t fight, drink, or anything but obviously it happened. Junior year is when the real partying started and someone told the principal. We had a meeting and he told us he would be a hawk watching us outside of school. We also wore name tags and failure to do so was a detention.

Mandatory ID is the best I can think of. We were a school of 500 everyone knew everone, teachers included, it wasnt needed. Yet we would get detentions fornot having it.

thats about the only stupid thing I could think of.
