Anyone who watched them both play always wondered the same thing. Kamara was a beast and Hurd was joe average.

That's simply not true.

I know Tennessee fans hate Butch Jones and Jalen Hurd now, but NOBODY was saying this in 2015 when Jalen Hurd was running for 1,000+ yards. Hurd was phenomenal that year behind a terrible offensive line. He was a stud against Oklahoma, Florida, and in the bowl game versus Northwestern. Hurd even ran the ball better against Alabama that year than just about any other RB.

Also Kamara was not as good in 2015 as he was in 2016 and now in the NFL.

Butch Jones messed up by not playing Kamara more. But Hurd was the better runner in 2015. Kamara became the better player in 2016. And obviously he's even better now in the NFL. I think people need to understand that sometimes players get better over time. Alvin improved every year at Tennessee. And he's now improved in the NFL.

Recruiting and talent was never the issue with Butch (although some credit has to go to the fact UT has always recruited for itself to some extent for generations). It was his moronic version of how football should be played that did Butch in. He truly convinced himself his system was “infallible” and shaped a weird pseudo-reality culture that discredited any logical criticism or adjustment brought to his attention. Let us not forget, this is the fricking HS band nerd, who wanted to make JJ Watt a TE. Butch would not even know how to strap on shoulder pads correctly due to to fact he never played a down of football in his life. Tennessee was fricking loaded with NFL talent compared to anyone in the East in 2015 and 2016 and he couldn’t even win that shitty division one time.
