Brees was directly responsible for at least 10 of those (pick 6 and turnover in FG range).

And the fact the offense went 2 of 12 on third down and didn't convert a third down for the last 25 minutes of the game did not help, nor did the Ingram fumble.

And special teams basically gave up another 10 (return td and a big return).

I'd only put 14 of those points directly on the D, and that may be pushing it.

And that's offset and then some by the 3 tds they scored. D was pulling weight yesterday.

I sure did. Wasn't that in FG range too or no?

Defense bailed out offense and special teams big time yesterday.

Exactly. Their point differential is -3. Of course, after the game where they had a net and gross zero, it's a slight decline in play.

I think our offense struggles yesterday were an anomaly. It's comforting to know our D can bail us out when the offense isn't clicking. Haven't seen that in a Loooonnnngg time.

Yep. Net 3 pts. I'll forgive them.

I agree. I think as long as the oline stays healthy and can play like that, Brees will find his rhythm with Snead being back and Ginn still being a new addition. Thomas also didn't have his best day and we know that won't happen very often.

Exactly. This offense can be scary good, maybe rival the 2011 team. How many other teams in the NFL can score 45 pts in 3 quarters ESPN? I'll hang up and listen...

I hate the old adage points off turnovers, because it honestly does not take account of where the turnover takes place.

In looking at things objectively I have always given the defense 15 yards.

If the opponents offense takes the field and goes less than 15 yards and gets a FG that is on the offense. If the opponents goes fewer than 40 yards to score a TD---I give 4 point to the defense and 3 points to the offense.

So say in the case of the Ingram fumble---You could make the argument that the offense has already given them 3 points and the defense gave up the other 4 points.

There is no doubt that the Lions offense gave the Saints directly 21 points, they were probably responsible for 3 of the points after the Robertson strip.
