LoL...why is that? We paid a nice sum to get an education there. We owe nothing to this school. I'm not donating a penny to LSU other than for football tickets.

This pretty much sums up why LSU is what it is. Alums from other schools could make this same argument but they don't.

Its sad, and even worse when you realize that these people are going to wa t their kids to go to LSU as well.

This is the general sense Ive always gotten from people in the state. Sad.

Why is this sad and why should anybody be frowned upon for not giving any of their hard-earned money to a multi-million dollar university like LSU?

And we will pay their tuition and fees for them to go there.

High fees/parking fees are a survival mechanism for LSU and are essentially a symptom of a low endowment. If LSU had a healthy endowment, those fees wouldn't be needed.

From a PR standpoint, I would get rid of the high parking fees though. Even though they may be necessary to fill budget shortfalls, I think they hurt psychologically more than paying higher admin fees or something.

The University of Texas has an endowment about 30 times the size of LSU's, and all those fees are present in Austin.

You give through the LSU Foundation?

I do, and to the law school and the alumni association.

You want to start donating, join the alumni association. Then you will get the requests for fundraising drives, the LSU Foundation, etc.

If every alum gave $50 a year every year, we could build a respectable endowment.

The problem is that you have to call the alumni association as the gatekeeper when you want to donate.

No they aren't.

You can't call say the School of Business because they will redirect you through the Alumni Association but when you write the check and fill out the paperwork you can specify.

I love my alma mater, but LSU is a bureaucratic, innefficient mess. It would be like donating money to the parish or state government. If that were to change, I would readily donate. Until then, I find it a huge waste of money.

Because at some point during your time at LSU, you were impacted by a donor who gave their hard-earned money to LSU. Whether it was that professor who taught you the class that got you the GPA to get into med school, or the lab equipment you worked on in Chemistry class.

Interestingly enough, my wife has never had to do that with her alma mater. Their folks track her down. Pretty close to stalking.

You can designate your funds via the LSU Foundation to a specific department, scholarship fund, etc.

Buying those lists are expensive. It's a catch 22.

Just fill out the updated form and go on your way.

You could also just make a gift online...even just a few bucks and it'll be updated.

Saul, are you an employee or an employee' relative?

No, I'm a recent grad who compared peer school endowments with ours and was shocked. I'm proud of the education and value I received from LSU, but would like to to see the university rise in terms of economic and social impacts to the state and region. A healthy, growing endowment goes a long way towards reaching that goal.

It is not a coincidence that schools with the top endowments on the list below are viewed as the best in the country:

I'm looking at the LSU Foundation website, and unless I'm missing something, this seems to be more geared to people who are able to donate in the thousands and above at a time, or those giving long term gifts. I'm kind of ignorant on how these things work, but why is there not a "Donate Now" button for those of us who are more casual donators?

eta: I'm dumb. I just found it.
Link for those that want to donate now.
