Sam Amick @sam_amick The Lakers' crime in this tampering case that costs them $500k, I'm told, is GM Rob Pelinka having communication with Paul George's agent.
Lol like they were gonna take the draft picks. But seriously, you can't tell me some of these potential free agents have contacts with organizations regularly

Ok, so tampering is totally worth it

These Laker characters are like the West Monroe of the NBA

Well yea
It's really hard to prove when actual hardcore tampering takes place because most of these things take place when teams meet with agents that have the same clients as current team members
The Lakers are being fined because PG has been so open about going to the Lakers which is whatever

Another key finding: No evidence found that the Lakers have any kind of 'wink-wink' free agency agreement with Paul George

Yeah if PG had just lied and screwed Indiana over everything would be cool

frick the lakers.
I wouldn't want you to say anything different

They were fined because Pelinka and George's agent had contact, which is the very definition of tampering. Punishment is a joke.

They had contact because his agent is also the agent for Julius randle and d'angelo Russell. I'm sure they spoke about George face to face, but I have a hard time believing they ever put something in writing about next summer

Read the release, the two were discussing George, not Randle and Russell.

Right. Like I said, I'm sure that happened. I would love to see what they actually have though to punish the Lakers because I have a hard time believing either his agent or pelinka would explicitly state in writing that they were meeting to talk about George

Maybe texts or something. If there was no evidence, I don't think they could get away with fining them 500k.

I really don't think they need evidence for slaps on the wrist like this. The Lakers sure as shite won't fight it because they wouldn't want the NBA to keep snooping around
I feel like it would be a stronger penalty if there was anything in writing, but if there was, then holy shite pelinka

Prolly not in writing, but what incentive does the agent have to lie about substance of convo to save Lakers?

Because the league could keep Paul George from signing with the Lakers
