Yea it's always made me laugh somebody thinks some kid from Texas is going to go to Auburn (just an example) because they once played a game near a city he lives in.

I think you're underestimating the power of brand familiarity. These neutral site games (as opposed to a cupcake game) get much bigger TV exposure.

That's a different argument. Playing a neutral site game as a replacement for a cupcake is different than playing a neutral site game in a recruiting hotbed and expecting any measurable amount of recruiting success because of the game's location.

Hopefully that makes sense.

Not entirely... I mean, I doubt that Miami sees a measurable increase in Dallas area recruiting in the aftermath of playing LSU there to open up the 2018 season... but playing that game and getting the bigger exposure (Miami might not be the best example here) is still a positive for recruiting nationwide.

Plus, you still get a cupcake game to pad the books because there's no second part of the traditional home and home.

They love to mention this point, but I'm not sure how effective this truly is.

FSU and Alabama will have dozens of Atlanta area recruits at the Chick Fil A Kick off game this year. It absolutely makes a difference in recruiting.

Probably for the better that didn't happen.

Eh, you can have a call with the kid before the game, meet with a group with assistants and if you win (hell even if you lose), call the kid after the game and thank him for coming out. These guys do everything they can to get a leg up in recruiting.

It's similar to going to a satellite camp in a number of ways

It's not about the fans. Never is.

1. Chick Fil'A won't sponsor a game played in Starkville.

2. Tell a kid that if he comes to your program he gets to play in AT&T stadium.

It seems our idiot AD, Joe Alleva, will gladly trade away a home-and-home with a big program for neutral sites.

As will every other AD in the country.

They bring about really big OOC games by ensuring both teams make more money than they would have in a home and home agreement

It's a good thing no matter how many people on here want to act like they aren't

I do not understand the purpose for these games

Makes perfect sense IMO. Exposure,Money and MUCH easier to schedule a 1 time neutral site game
between 2 P5 teams than going through the home and home contract and scheduling obstacles.

We've been getting early season games that would have been much more difficult to schedule in the past.

People who complain about these games must not go to them. Nuetral site games are a blast. Used to go to all road games but don't have time anymore so only go to one a year. Always pick the neutral site game. The atmosphere is always great and they serve beer. If we played BYU at home to start season half the crowd is gone by midway through 3rdQ. That won't happen in Houston.

One part of the money equation that doesn't get brought up often is that there's no conference TV rights. The host of the game can bid it out, and pass the extra revenue stream to the school.

I'm not sure how many other schools do this, but LSU puts up billboards in the city to welcome the team and fans. Houston area recruits will see LSU billboards for a month that LSU wouldn't have an excuse to put up otherwise.
