Memphis turned and old railroad track into a bike and running path that connects several parks through Memphis. It is a hit and people were hesitant as first. I think this would be great for Baton Rouge.
Louisville(or Ohio/Kentucky) did something similar with an old railroad track over the ohio river. Pretty cool

This thread is ground zero why BR is so shitty. The backwards arse thinking that bike paths are a bad thing for an urban area that has horrible traffic problems as well as people bitching about bikers on highways.
Keep keeping on BR trying to cement yourself as the a-hole of the south below Jafrica

Um - it actually is proposed.
It may or may not ever get built but it's definitely been proposed.

They turned an old railroad bridge over the Mississippi into a bike trail.

Kind of like the River Place condos downtown

But still above New Orleans.

Will the ticket bicycle dudes ride on it?

3.7 million for phase 1. Wouldn't it be more cost-effective to just pay these reparations directly to the downtrodden and not lure them to a government funded hunting ground?

Map of the trail network that is being built in sections (some of it has already been built) in East Baton Rouge.
The levee-top trail is eventually going to be extended well into Ibberville and Ascension Parish.
They are building a trail between Siegen and Essen now along the creek.

I love paths .No matter the price. I will use them all. I once took the stairway to heaven . And the next day I took the stairway to Steven. Start down voting now.

IMO, this is the most exciting thing going on in BR right now.
The medical trail will be a huge deal when completed(from the same site goofball got his image).
While I most likely wont use the Scotlandville to Downtown trail, I plan to ride it at least once. It will be great for the kids and families in the area to get out and ride a bike. I know some are concerned with crime, which is valid, but hopefully BRPD can keep that to a minimum and the path will be well lit and patrolled.

This will just give the peeps in NBR an area to target to mug pedestrians.
It'll be the most dangerous bike path in America
Yay! We're number 1.

I bet the dindus are licking their chops over the eventual buffet of bikes to steal and people to mug.

Either way, let's not put a path on Perkins Road, or Highland, or Lee Drive, or College Drive, or Essen Lane...let's put it where most of the automobile traffic is... North Baton Rouge. Ok.
They are constructing a path between Siegen and Essen along Ward Creek.

I would like to see them connect the trail head at LSU Ave/Stanford to the Kenilworth area along Bayou Duplainer. Just sort of extend the trail that already exists out in that direction.
There are dedicated lanes on Kenilworth already.

Sounds like a good place to deal drugs. You'll never see a cop on a bike to bust you

Another go-to breeding ground for crime in North BR.
Seriously, with all the money thrown away over the years btwn crap like this and the CATS system, we could have had built a decent transit system. With our traffic issues, we need something substantial. Not the yellow brick bike path to the ghetto.

They should've paved the levee from downtown to the Laberge. That's where all the bikers ride, however river road is currently a death wish.

I guess we all need to do our part here and go buy a bike and leave it out in plain view so someone from North Baton Rouge can steal it so they can ride it on this bike path.
