USA TODAY @USATODAY · 2m #BREAKING LeBron James is frustrated and concerned with the Cavaliers’ offseason

LINK

quote:

LeBron James, the NBA’s most powerful player and biggest star who brought the Cleveland Cavaliers their first NBA championship, is concerned about the Cavaliers’ offseason, a person close to the situation told USA TODAY Sports.

quote:

Expecting an aggressive offseason approach that would close the gap on the champion Golden State Warriors, James soon found his anticipation and optimism diminished after Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert dismantled the front office, declining days before the draft and free agency to bring back general manager David Griffin and vice president of basketball operations Trent Redden.
Gilbert’s decision left the Cavs without the franchise’s top two front-office execs at a critical time, and it left James frustrated and concerned about the team’s ability to put together a roster that can better compete with Golden State, the person with direct knowledge of James’ thinking told USA TODAY Sports. The person was not authorized to speak publicly and requested anonymity.

quote:

James can become a free agent following the 2017-18 season, and it doesn’t take a wild imagination to see him elsewhere – especially if he feels there’s a better opportunity for him to win a championship with another team. The Lakers are mentioned as a possibility with James recruiting another star to join a young and talented core for the 2018-19 season.

quote:

Further exacerbating James’ frustration is the Cavs were close to making a deal for then-Chicago Bulls All-Star Jimmy Butler the day Gilbert decided to mutually part ways with Griffin and Redden, two people familiar with negotiations told USA TODAY Sports. They requested anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly on the negotiations.

Maybe he shouldn't have pushed for Tristan Thompson to be ridiculously overpaid for his level of output.

He's going to go to LA and form another super team, and will ultimately win 3-4 championships there on his way out. The haters are going to hate, but I blame ole bitch arse KD

Theoretically, what would happen right now if Lebron announced today that this would be his last season with the Cavs. That would be fascinating to see.

Is it wrong for me to be more excited about the 2018 offseason than the 2017-2018 season itself?

That's a very liberal use of the "BREAKING" hashtag

I'm a huge Lebron fan, but if he wants to motivate his franchise to act more aggressively, he could always sign some paperwork to dispel these Los Angeles rumors.

What exactly was lebron expecting? Sorry teams aren't lining up to give up all stars for TT and Shumpert.

And who pushed for JR Smith, Iman Shumpert, and Tristan Thompson to combine for 40.65mil annually?

I can understand JR Smith @ 14.25mil; he's attempted 6.4 3s a game and knocked down 38.3%. Hell, in the playoffs its been 6.5 attempts and 41.8%. Actually does the thing LeBron needs most offensively, spacing and hitting open 3's. Defensively he's not the worst, but shooters get PAID and he fits the bill.

The other two, that's flat out horrible.

Iman shumpert 10mil a year?
3.1 3pt attempts and 33.8%, so he doesn't space for you at all. Defensively he's better than JR Smith, but he does NOTHING offensively for you...

and then Thompson gets paid 16.4mil a year.
An 8/8 undersized center who clogs the lane. contributes minimal offensively, but is a decent defender and rebounder for his size. Issue is, he is a "hustle" guy that doesn't hustle all the time. This past year, him being on or off the court didn't matter. It was a net 0.7 rating worse.

He's gone. It's almost as if Gilbert knows this too.

I'm assuming that he doesn't know how a salary cap works.

This is so bizarre. He basically made Gilbert bend over and let him go in raw. Did a piss poor job at constructing a team by insisting guys like Thompson get their big bucks. Blames Gilbert when GSW is so good no one is touching them. I still think anyone who thinks Gilbert canned Griffin without input from Lebron is delusional. In the end though, Lebron brought Gilbert and the Cavs a title so there should be no ill will. That was the price Gilbert had to pay and he knew it. It will be fascinating next offseason when Gilbert writes a tell all letter exposing what really happened.

Lets face it...James is going to leave the Cavs next year unless they have the money to gain a couple of top FA's. If they don't, he will just bolt to a team that is already loaded. He will take the easy way out.

They have no money and no assets. He pushed for most of this horrible current contracts. Honestly, what does he expect exactly?
