re: How does Florida get so many top arms?

Well, the starter tonight was a high school shortstop. That position usually has a gun for an arm, so the fastball should be there, it's a matter of moving him to the mound and having another pitch or so. The announcers commented that Fla was using fastballs and sliders, that was about it.

We had 7 shortstops on the field at times (that was the famous quote during our run). Consider a quy like Deichmann, who's thrown a couple runners out at first from the outfield, or Smith, who's fired lasers from 3rd at times. I bet they can hit 96 mph, but we use them in the field, not on the mound.

Maybe Florida could have a more potent batting lineup (more power) if they keep those guys on the field. Maybe LSU has more arms if we move them to the mound. It's part of the game.

We get top pitchers, we just can't hold on to them, i.e.: Marshall, Latz.

Haha, no they can't. Its rare. Really really rare to throw 96.

This is something I have noticed about CPM if our pitchers can't over power the hitters we are fricked. Do they not let them or teach them to throw curves, sliders, cutters or breaking balls. We seem to just serve up 88mph fast balls. If you can't throw in the 90s you better have at least 2 more pitches.

We walk WAY to many batters!

Their pitching staff and it's depth won them this CWS. Their pitchers are also well coached.

Umm Poche started the season without giving up a run in 30 something innings.

I noticed Florida had a lot of tall pitchers. Hess fits in that mold he throws high 90s. Maybe recruit bigger pitchers would help?

Meh, they bring in guys that are elite prospects from jump street. According to Perfect Game, Puk was #23, Shore was #146, Faedo was #78, Singer was #50, Kowar was #107, etc.

Meanwhile, Lange was #134, Poche was #285, Latz was #182, McKay was #49, Hess was #50, Peterson was #91, Walker and Gilbert were outside the top 500. Injuries have hurt, but LSU is doing it with lesser talented arms than UF, no question.
