But wait we have Dunn the pitcher whisperer. Did you not see Lange and Poche and Norman get sooooo much better this year? Give him time to mess up Hess, Walker, Gilbert

Well, the starter tonight was a high school shortstop. That position usually has a gun for an arm, so the fastball should be there, it's a matter of moving him to the mound and having another pitch or so. The announcers commented that Fla was using fastballs and sliders, that was about it.

We had 7 shortstops on the field at times (that was the famous quote during our run). Consider a quy like Deichmann, who's thrown a couple runners out at first from the outfield, or Smith, who's fired lasers from 3rd at times. I bet they can hit 96 mph, but we use them in the field, not on the mound.

Maybe Florida could have a more potent batting lineup (more power) if they keep those guys on the field. Maybe LSU has more arms if we move them to the mound. It's part of the game.

At the same time what many of us overlook is look how long Florida has had top arms and they won their first championship last night. Even with great pitching championships are hard to win with parity.

I would love to see more pitching at LSU but we have good arms it's just hard to win it all. Would also love to get a top 2 round pick here at some point.

We get top pitchers, we just can't hold on to them, i.e.: Marshall, Latz.

It's a big state with a lot of kids playing baseball in it.

UF ran out Puk, Shore, Faedo, Singer, etc last year and went 0-2 in Omaha. That may be one of the greatest staffs in College Baseball history, and they didn't win a title.

Haha, no they can't. Its rare. Really really rare to throw 96.

Every year it seems they have 5-6 guys that throw mid 90's w good breaking ball. How do they get so many every damn year? Hot chicks?, new mustang?, what is it?

Walker got hurt, Gilbert is pretty good, poche, Hess, and lange. that's five very good arms for lsu.

Imagine if the kid that pitched for florida last night got hurt or walker doesn't.

This is something I have noticed about CPM if our pitchers can't over power the hitters we are fricked. Do they not let them or teach them to throw curves, sliders, cutters or breaking balls. We seem to just serve up 88mph fast balls. If you can't throw in the 90s you better have at least 2 more pitches.

We walk WAY to many batters!

Their pitching staff and it's depth won them this CWS. Their pitchers are also well coached.

Huh? Lange, Hess, and a Poche have incredibly effective breaking balls, and Gilbert had great control.

Aaron Nola was a masterful pitcher just a few years ago.

Pitching is not LSU's problem. We're just commenting on how incredibly rich it is for UF.

Umm Poche started the season without giving up a run in 30 something innings.

O'Sullivan is one of the best pitching coaches in the country. That frees him up to use the 'pitching coach' spot on a recruiter. They bring in 6'2"-6'5" guys and he develops em. Pretty good system.

Walker threw 20 pitches in this CWS - if he is there, maybe it turns out differently. Without him, we were right there.

I noticed Florida had a lot of tall pitchers. Hess fits in that mold he throws high 90s. Maybe recruit bigger pitchers would help?

What do you mean? LSU does this every year. This is a completely different series if Walker isn't hurt

Meh, they bring in guys that are elite prospects from jump street. According to Perfect Game, Puk was #23, Shore was #146, Faedo was #78, Singer was #50, Kowar was #107, etc.

Meanwhile, Lange was #134, Poche was #285, Latz was #182, McKay was #49, Hess was #50, Peterson was #91, Walker and Gilbert were outside the top 500. Injuries have hurt, but LSU is doing it with lesser talented arms than UF, no question.

Sully develops pitchers really well. Plus, he coddles them like no other coach. UF will lose a game before they put in a recent pitcher; even a day before he should be back. I know a lot of coaches do that, but from what I have heard, Sully takes it to the next level.

But then again, the grass is always greener. The Gators have been bitching and moaning for years that we have no hitting (and we really don't). So, we are envious of LSU's bats. Just not today.
