UF ran out Puk, Shore, Faedo, Singer, etc last year and went 0-2 in Omaha. That may be one of the greatest staffs in College Baseball history, and they didn't win a title.

And I'm sure alot of their fans thought that there was no way they could have a more successful staff

Success isn't all about preseason predictions and draft prospects. It's about guys stepping up at the right time

Just because we lose lange and Poche we aren't doomed

Honest answer for you, O'Sullivan is one hell of a pitching coach. He gets the good arms because of what he does with kids like Dyson and Byrne.

I doubt any of those kids are actually on scholarship. College baseball programs are only allowed to have 11 scholarship athletes on the team at one time.

Florida's biggest flaw is fan support.

That's about to change. They are a pationate fan base too, but they like a winner. Now that they have a program that embarrassed one of its top conference rivals at the highest level in "their" sport, I think you will see a lot more interest in the program. It's amazing what vitriol can accomplish.

We have the arms to match Florida, we just get too many big arms that don't know how to pitch and take longer if ever to develop. We recruit big, hard throwing guys. Many of these guys have gotten by just blowing away the hitters in high school. While some like Lange come in ready and a few like Hess quickly develop, many aren't able to have good enough command of their pitches, don't develop breaking balls that they can throw for strikes and just seem to panic when they get late in the count, which is the reason for so many walks that our pitchers give up.

While guys like Poche and Chris Cotton might never make it to the majors, I think we need a few of those guys on our team every year. They just know how to pitch

This is something I have noticed about CPM if our pitchers can't over power the hitters we are fricked. Do

Poche, Gilbert, Walker....none overpowers people

Our closer was Newman successfully for 90% of the season.

Agreed. Hess, Walker, Peterson, and Gilbert are a solid start, plus what should be a solid class of pitchers coming in next year.

It really amazed me at the amount of pitchers we threw out there in our first game against Oregon State, the one we lost 13-1. None of the pitchers could barely even throw fricking strikes, and when they did, they grooved them and got tagged. I was thinking how the hell did these rag-arms even get a college scholarship in division 1, much less at a school with the reputation LSU has? Mainieri better go out and recruit some top notch pitchers or we won't have shite behind walker, gilbert and Hess. Our pitching stuff sucks once you go about 6 deep. They're just really bad, and you need a deep bullpen that can at least be relied upon to throw damn strikes when you need them to in order to win a championship. He better go sign some studs or it will be more of the same I'm sorry to say.

Can't argue with this.

Doubtful. People in Florida don't give a shite about baseball. Look at the Marlins and Rays. They have no fan support.

You are one of the more astute posters here. Florida's top rated arm, out of high school, is Brady Singer, #50. Second was Faedo, #78.
On campus in the last three years, LSU had Mac Marshall, #21, Cole McKay, #49, Zach Hess, #57 and Jake Godfrey, #64. We also had Todd Peterson #91, Alex Lange, #134, and Jake Latz, #182.
As far as recruiting, Mainieri holds a candle to no one. If these recruits had panned out, the Florida forum would be asking why doe LSU get so many top arms.

Pretty sure one of their guys that was going to start pulled a hamstring.

Yep. LSU and UF are going after many of the same guys, but UF is getting elite talent to campus AND they're panning out at a high rate. LSU is coaching up guys like Lange, Poche, and Walker, and getting great production out of them, but missing on the top end guys for one reason or the other. Hess is the exception thus far, not the rule.

Sully has a done a great job of coaching those pitchers up and helping them improve their draft status. Basically just has to convince the kid he has a shot to possibly double if not triple his money by going to Florida

I mean, that's brilliant and all, but EVERY D1 baseball team tells their recruits this...

UF matches the MLB offer and develops the kid, then he goes first round in 2 years. Plus all the pussy and new car.

I think you're missing the key point in that Sully actually has a track record to point to when telling recruits that he can improve their draft status.

Baseball programs have 11 scholarships per season to divide between the players, not 11 players on scholarship. With roster limits, most players are able to get at least something.

Your point is still correct in that a lot of the bench players are getting nothing or a few hundred dollars for books, etc., but there are a lot more than 11 players receiving some form of aid (and few to none receiving a full scholarship).
