If Minnesota and Dallas don't go hard after Jrue, I think that he could come shockingly cheap. We're used to bad luck on this team, but I think a 4/$80m deal for Jrue is possible.

Dell took a 1st round pick off the table during the Boogie trade. I forget what happened to cause Dell to do it, but when Divac said that the Kings had a better offer on the table before they traded Boogie to us, he was talking about a previous offer that we had made.

While that is true and gives me some hope, Demps has always gone out of his way to have a good rep with players and agents. I think he probably has room to reduce the offer in line with the $2 million projected cap reduction, but I don't think he would get cutthroat with Jrue.

Gotcha ya. He already lost, what, $30m losing the DPE. Doubt he gives up another ~$20m or whatever it is so long as the Pelicans are competent this season.
And I get why people would prefer to let Jrue walk to maintain flexibility, but let's say AD/DC + the likes of Solo, Moore, Diallo, and a few cheap FA guards win 42 games next season. How much financial flexibility do we really have after maxing Boogie? Does AD/DC carrying this team with adequate play from Moore/Diallo/Solo really tempt any big FAs? Look at next offseason's big FA names. None of them (Durant, Lebron, PG, Westbrook) are coming here. What's the point? Are Benson and, more importantly, Boogie and AD willing to play the long game and wait 2 full seasons before going after a semi-realistic big fish like Wall?

Sorry for the double post, but summed up:
I can visualize our future if we keep Jrue: roll out a Jrue/Moore/Solo/AD/DC type lineup, keep the other DC (solid backup), and use the MLE on a solid guard. From there, you pray that:
1) Solo can shoot 42%+ from corner 3's, maybe 38% overall. Not likely, but wouldn't be shocking.
2) We get good Jrue on offense. We've seen him kick arse over 20 game stretches, and we've seen him be atrocious over 20 game stretches. Who knows.
3) AD/DC frick the world up. This is likely to happen, but it will be much easier if 1 and 2 happen.
If we let Jrue walk and lose our MLE, I just don't see where we go in the future. We'll need some pretty expert FO moves and some serious luck. Besides winning the AD lotto, we haven't had much of either of those things.

some front court thoughts
-I think they should try to upgrade cunninghams roster spot, especially if familiarity will cause dell to over-offer
-a lot is riding on diallo improving...I'd sure like to hear about it what he's been working on this offseason, and with who
-besides young celtics might shed Jordan Mickey too, he might be worth a look

I may be alone on this, but Wall is a little overrated imo. The guy is kind of a one trick pony and his trick is going to get way worse over time. I think almost any PG will be begging to come play with AD and Boogie if we make the playoffs the next two years.

I dunno about Cunningham.
obviously $$ he wants matters. but, to me, what happens with him is tied to how they feel about Diallo this year
if they think Diallo can play a little most nights next to either Davis or Cousins (and want that 2 big look), then I think they'd be better off with more of a true wing than Cunningham
if not, I'd much rather keep Cunningham as backup 4 than spend on another more traditional big or play Ajinca/Asik

If Diallo can give us a solid 20 minutes a night I will be ecstatic. Would be ginormous for the Pels this season. Legit fired up to see him in summer league. When does that start?

People with sauces heard that the initial ask was max for Jrue and more than the MLE for Justin. At some point in negotiations they'd surely have to come down from that ridiculous amount. The negotiations really haven't begun yet to make them change their stance. Although I think Tim Frazier getting traded for cap space was a warning shot.
