Yep, didn't want to be stuck working in chemical plants and to get away from the ghetto. Got a degree in electronics and network engineering then bolted to Austin where I could find a real job and not have to worry about getting robbed.

Never thought I'd see someone get poetic about Livingston Parish. Kingbob, you need to travel my man.

Yes for grad school. Ironically enough I moved to Texas for work and immediately got transferred to the NOLA office so I'm back.

Yes. More money. I know how to make friends. And my Louisiana friends are a close drive/flight away.

I have been to 3 continents, dozens of countries, and most of the states. I think I'm qualified.

Yes you are qualified to write off the experiences of every other person by insisting you are getting an experience that is unique unto Louisiana.

After all you've been to dozens of countries. DOZENS!

Some people need to get out and expand horizons, while others have all that they want there in LA.

This pretty much sums it up. Unfortunately, in many cases, the very people who would be much better off don't have the courage to make the move.
I did have the opportunity and didn't take advantage of it and have always wondered what might have been.

I left for Texas for 1.5 years doing chemical plant work in NE Texas. Got an offer in 2007 for a 30% raise to come back to North LA. I took it and haven't regretted it all that much...compared to moving to LA from Texas.

My wife and I took a trip to the Asheville, NC area and I'd move there in a heartbeat if given the chance. I've done a lot of traveling and NYC, San Francisco, Los Angeles, etc are very nice. However, I couldn't do the big city thing unless I was filthy rich.

Left. Stayed gone for 10 years (Military/College/Work)

Got nostalgic and decided to move back. Worst mistake we ever made. Currently planning to GTFO with my family as soon as possible.

Without New Orleans, Louisiana is easily the shittiest state in the U.S. and that includes Mississippi.
