Did you leave Louisiana after graduating college?

And if so, what was your reasoning behind it? Job lined up? Just to get away?
Leaving LA sounds very appealing but I can't imagine leaving all my friends and family here behind. Not to mention all the (job) connections already in place here that I've made over time.
It almost seems like a disservice to yourself if you were to leave behind all the resources and associates already in place for you in LA.
But I've grown tired of LA (mostly BR) and feel that a complete change could be for the better.

No, I wasn't that smart.

Yep, we got out immediately. For what my wife graduated in, we would do much better financially out of Louisiana. And I wanted to GTFO of the south. No regrets.

I know what those friends and family are telling you. However, there really is no magical force shield at the TX state line and yes, the oxygen supply doesn't run out over here. It's all a myth.

I did... reason was job opportunities, money, and better quality of life.

Yep. Saw this guy on TV slay a dragon with a sword. Thought it looked cool. Got the sword but after 20 years, I never saw a fricking dragon. Semper.

Nope, I love duck hunting and saltwater fishing too much to leave. That and the cost of living is a joke.

Yeah I'm not too interested in any other southern states. Looking for an entirely new region

I did. Moved to Nashville for three years.
Grew up in Slidell, and I knew there was no way in Hell I was moving back there.
Wanted to move to NO but it was right after Katrina, and just not a good time to move back.
I'm so glad I did it. You will make connections and friends, find a job, and be a better person because of it. It's good to step out of your comofort zone and experience new places.
Loved it in Nashville, but after a few years ended up moving back in NO, and now Lafayette. I would still consider moving back to Nashville with the right job.
I would 100% advise you to move out of Louisiana after you graduate.

Followed money. It took nearly a decade to realize that Louisiana isn't as great as my nogistalic memories led me to believe. Aside from being able to go see LSU play on a whim, I don't miss anything about it. Not even the food. Real louisianans cook better than 99% of anything restaurants have to offer.

Left to go to college. Came back after graduation to work in Mandeville. Got accepted to grad school out of state and never came back.
I miss Louisiana, but I but I married a Mississippi girl who doesn't want to leave and I own my own business here. So doubtful I would ever move back.

It is hard to quantify the value of one's support system. It is hard to put a dollar price on seeing your friends and family every day. It's difficult to monetize the feeling of knowing that everywhere you go every single day you will interact with people you have known for your entire life. There is a certain connectivity to the land, a deep-rooted belonging that comes with living in such a place. It is something most people from outside of Louisiana do not understand until they spend time here. Most people in the North move where their jobs are. Their home towns mean little to them. They're just the location of their dad's job. In Louisiana, it's a part of you. The very soil beneath your feet is a nearly sacred birthrite. For outsiders, it is impossible to truly understand. For those who were raised in it, it often goes unnoticed and unappreciated.
However, for those who know it, utilize it, and appreciate it, it is truly valuable beyond all measure.

Yep. I graduated in 2010 and had a hard time finding a job in Louisiana.
I worked a couple shite jobs for about 6mo after graduating but ended up moving to Tennessee.
I planned on getting away anyway. I never really cared for Louisiana.

I left immediately. I had no desire to work in or around a damn plant my whole life plus wanted to experience other places. Best thing I ever did.

Texas is cheaper and has all of that. Of course you've got to meet people if you don't want to pay a lease.

That was a bad arse recruiting tool back in the day. No telling how many guys went to boot wanting to slay dragons.
