Yet the democrats claim racism is why Trump won. They just can't figure it out.
So the black guy won and the white woman lost because the folks out here are racist!!! It makes no sense.
Clinton lost because she was a bad candidate who was nominated only because she and her allies had rigged the primarily process. She had no agenda of her own, she had no core beliefs and she was a corrupt candidate.
It's not complicated.

NYT Opinion: The Democratic Party is in Worse Shape Than You Thought
Difficult to claim racism when at least 1/6th of Trump voters had supported Obama in the past.
Just another one of those inconvenient truths we keep not hearing about in the press.

They are in bad shape. There's no leadership. Who's really running things now? Nobody knows.

They took one small crawl back to reality by going away from Ellison to head the DNC.
But that's one tiny step...they have a long path forward.

The problem is Democrats staked their entire party on identity politics and as such they've pretty much been abandoned by the entire mainstream of America.
Democrats traditionally billed themselves as the party of the working man. They were the party of unions and the blue collars.
Who do Democrats represent in 2017?
Blacks? Gays? Illegal immigrants? Trannies? Feminists? Muslims?
Democrats are basically just a coalition of fringe special interest groups at this point.

This is spot on. As loud and obnoxious as the blacks, gays, trannies, feminists, and Muslims are, they are still nothing more than major minority groups in this country. Illegal immigrants can't vote (well, mostly) so they don't count.
You can't win an election with fringe minority groups. They represent exactly that, the fringe of society. Now, when you decide to go all in and attempt to assault the intelligence of Trump voters while calling them racist bigots when up to 9 million of them are former Dem voters, it's very tough to bring those people back to your party when all they see is you throwing baseless accusations at them.

NYT is right. The Dems should be capitalizing on the "resistance" that is out there yet they're an even bigger shitshow.
Torpedoing Bernie Sanders campaign will have lasting impacts for years.
If they were not the party that stomped out populism, they probably could capitalize off of "the resistance".
Right now they are resisting the outsider candidate from the perspective of the entitled, coastal ruling class.

Both parties are a shell of their former selves.
Look at the shite show of the primaries and last presidential election. You had the two weakest candidates in years.
The Dems have lost their way and forgotten the middle class working individual. Their image is of the tree hugging lesbian and/or political corruption at the highest levels.
BUT, the GOP may even be in worse shape for the future. The national demographics are changing quickly and clinging to the quasi racist/sexist rhetoric will bury the party.
Republicans get real traction with voters on job and budget arguments.
The Dems need to get their head out their arse and start looking more practically at this nations financial condition.

I can't believe that was published in the NYT.
quote:
Rather than debating whether Democrats should appeal to white working-class voters or voters of color — both necessary components of a successful electoral coalition, particularly at the state and local level — a more important question emerges: Why are Democrats losing support and seeing declining turnout from working-class voters of all races in many places?

He talks like a conservative, walks like a conservative, well he's NOT the same as Pelosi or Pocahontas.

you're dreaming, bro. we're going to get rid of the 30 million illegals, and require a national voter ID. Without those illegal votes, the Dems can't win anything. It's all over for them (but the crying).
