Will Dorsey's number ever be retired?

I was thinking about this last week and with Shelvin taking on #72, should Glenn have his number retired soon? Personally, I say yes. What does the Rant seem to think?

I'd say no, but I believe he has the most awards out of any LSU player so it's hard to say.

I'd be down! But, with the precedent LSU has set with Cannon and Casanova it will be many many years before they retire any recent players.

Oh I completely agree. Very hard to be retired with the precedent LSU has set. But if anybody, I would think he would be one of the first to be retired

It's coming, be patient.
With all the hardware he accumulated I think it will definitely happen.

Not before Kevin Faulk's

I'd say Bert Jones is next up.

Dorsey:
2x 1st Team AA
Lott Award
Outland Award
Lombardi Award
Bronco Nagurski Award
2007 SEC defensive POY
Even with the precedent set, he has matched those two players

They should've retired #3 a long time ago before many LSU greats wore it after Faulk. I still associate #3 with Faulk, but also Buster Davis, OBJ, and Chad Jones. In my opinion it is the third most recognizable LSU number behind 18 and 7.

I think they would all be in the conversation along with maybe Josh Reed?

Give me Lavalais over Dorsey all day everyday

The backs get all the recognition, but how about somebody like Andolsek?

This is a joke question right?

Cassanova was a great player, but I don't think his jersey should have been retired. However, if you are going to retire Cassanova's number, then it's hard to say you shouldn't do the same for Dorsey and Faulk. Especially Faulk, who may have been the most influential player in the last 30 years of LSU football. Faulk changed the narrative that top Louisiana talent shouldn't waste their time at LSU. NOTHING has been more important to LSU football than being able to by and large lock down the top Louisiana talent year in and year out

Why would it? He was an average player at best

I don't really understand the point of retiring numbers in college. Those guys are here for such a short period of time, and there are limited numbers. It makes more sense in the pros because some of the greats stick around a team for 10-15 years, and the number truly becomes part of what you associate with them.
Just put banners or signs up with their name and honor them.

I'm with you, Bmath. Part of the honor comes with wearing a number of one of the greats, like #7: Fournette, Peterson, Honey Badger, Bert Jones.
