The songs thread made me break out my almost famous dvd. I forgot what a great movie that was. Can anyone tell me what band Stillwater is based on? Tia

I didn't think they had a band in particular in mind. Just the one hit or one album wonder but based in the 70's.

Did Foghat have a musical catalog? I can only think of one.

Tiny Dancer scene FTW.

Pretty sure it was based on the writers experience with a combination of groups. Led Zeppelin, The Eagles, and The Brothers if I remember correctly.

A lot of the stories are based on the allman brothers band

It is mostly a mix of poco, the eagles, led zep, the allmans and skynyrd

The golden god rant is from robert plant, the whole "the buzz" schtick was from glenn fry, and trying to nail down the interview was crowe dealing with gregg allman.

I have the deluxe DVD version of the movie that I got years ago and it has an accompanying CD included of the fictitious band Stillwater included in a slip case to make it look like an old school vinyl record. It has "Fever Dog" and a few other songs. Very 70s sounding, maybe a little too self-consciously so.

Supposedly the band consists of Nancy Wilson, Peter Frampton, Mike McCready and some studio guys. Marty Fredrickson is the vocalist that Jason Lee lip syncs to.

Such a great great movie. Definitely on the list of those I have watched countless times and will still put on if I see it when channel surfing.

In addition to all the other great performances and lines, Philip Seymor Hoffman taking such an otherwise minor role and making it memorable and pivotal. RIP PSH.

One of my top 5 favorite movies of all time.

You CANNOT make friends with the rock stars. That's what's important. If you're a rock journalist - first, you will never get paid much. But you will get free records from the record company. And they'll buy you drinks, you'll meet girls, they'll try to fly you places for free, offer you drugs... I know. It sounds great. But they are not your friends. These are people who want you to write sanctimonious stories about the genius of the rock stars, and they will ruin rock and roll and strangle everything we love about it.
