What on this blue/green orb possessed them to place the story during WORLD WAR ONE!?
1. How many blockbuster movies have taken place in World War II as opposed to World War I? It's something new and different.
Are they going to have an invisible Eindecker 3?
What do you give away in high tech gizmos when your movie is placed in WWI, the most depressing single event in world history?

If there's one thing I'm sick of, it's the cliche of using World War One as a setting for character origin stories. I mean, I'm just sick of how overused it is. Every time I turn around, I'm like, oh, another movie set in the trenches. Ho hum.

I don't know. But apparently it worked. I fully expect you to dislike it though.

Looks like Lebanon is trying to ban it, simply because Gal Gadot is a Jew/Israeli: LINK

Easy.
That way it is impossible for Chris Pine's character to be alive in 2017 but possible for his great-grandson to be and look like him.

I hadn't thought about this but that is indeed a valid point.

I dunno, somehow a superhero story set before the invention of antibiotics seems just sort of weird.
If your argument for placing a story in WWI is novelty, a whole bunch of film makers have avoided the novelty of it perhaps for the reason I say - World War One is the single most depressing event in history.
Six million dead soldiers and the main outcome is the rise of the Nazis.

The jury is still out on if WW is an actual good movie. I'd like to be surprised, but we'll see.
Not knowing more about it, picking WWI makes you wonder if Kaiser's Bill's guys are not just surrogate Nazis.

I don't know. World War I claimed the lives of 17 million people all told. World War II claimed the lives of 60-80 million people, with the majority of those deaths being civilians (with a good many of them victims of mass genocide).
I think the Second World War gives the First World War a run for its money in terms of depression.

Wonder Woman has similar origIns as Captain America though.
Not really. Closer to Thor or Marvel's Hercules if we're going to pair her with a Marvel character. There are tons of superheroes who had their start during WWII. Cap is one of the few modern day heroes who's stayed tied to his WWII origin.
Wonder Woman didn't disappear after WWII. She kept going. ABC just chose to place her back in WWII for the first part of her TV series before the series switched to present day. She left her WWII comics origin in the dust decades ago. They even retconned it for a while that her mother was the WWII Wonder Woman.

The "War to end all wars" is so much more depressing than World War II for many reasons:
-It was completely unnecessary.
-All it accomplished was to break up an empire (ended the Ottomans), begin Russia's march to communism (Lenin and the Bolsheviks took power in 1917), and crush a country and its people (Germany) for no reason other than simple retribution.
-It turned a small conflict between two small countries into a huge conflict based off of a massive series of alliances that no one ever expected to have to honor. Aside from Austria-Hungary and Serbia, none of the countries involved had any real reason to fight aside from honoring an alliance.
-It served as a proving ground to test new horrible ways to cause death and suffering (trench warfare, chemical warfare).
-The net amount of land gained in World War One was one fricking mile. Nine Million dead for ONE MILE OF LAND.

Not for us. We entered a golden age of prosperity and power. And the worst two actors, Germany and Japan are among our best allies.

And none of the politicians stood back and said - "Wait, what is the point of this?"
Good grief.

You really think politicians cared? Back then, any male not of "noble ancestry" was expendable.

Not for us.
Neither World War I or World War II were particularly depressing for us. Yeah, we mourned the loss of hundreds of thousands of our finest Americans, but beyond that, neither war really impacted the country's infrastructure.
While World War I was devastating to Europe in terms of loss of life, most of the European infrastructure remained intact (northern France excluded). But while World War I only ruined northern France and other small pockets of Europe, World War II effected virtually every country on that continent. Entire cities were obliterated in France, Germany, Britain, the Balkans, Poland, and Russia.
I agree that World War I was without a doubt the most pointless war of the 20th century. But most depressing? Nah...World War II touched the common man on a terrifying scale unheard of or unseen before or since.

I'm a little more optimistic after seeing the reviews and I am looking forward to finally walking out of a DCEU movie not scratching my head questioning their decisions.

Yeah, the trenches fricking sucked and it seemed entirely pointless, but the images of World War 2 and the devastation left behind makes it the worst. It was humanity at its best and worst.

The main difference between World War I and World War II is as follows:
World War I - Let's see how many men we can kill in the most horrible ways possible.
World War II - Worldwide battle between good and evil fighting for the soul of humanity.
In fact, you could make a compelling argument that World War I set the conditions that made World War II happen.

I wouldn't call it argument. I would call it fact. There is no World War II without World War I. The three main instigators of that conflict (Germany, Italy, and Japan) based all of their grievances on what happened in the aftermath of World War I.
Germany, a defeated party, was forced to take the brunt of the blame for the war and suffered economic hardships as a result. Italy and Japan, both members of the Entente, were promised territories for their efforts in the war but got the shaft at Versailles.

Eehhhh, I think the War in the Pacific was inevitable even if WWI didn't occur. Hirohoto was going to take the throne regardless, and he would have gone forward with his desires of conquering Asia and the Pacific.
