Don't forget that the wronged party (Austria-Hungary, whose leader was assassinated by a Serbian national) and its allies were the ones who LOST the war.

Serbia was actually subjugated within the first year of WWI, but no one cared. It had no impact on the war, despite Austria literally accomplishing its goal which set off the war.
And WWI is infinitely more depressing. In WWII, we get to cast ourselves as good guys. We beat the Nazis, one of the few times in history there was a clear cut villain. It's also a war of movement, so it's real fun to learn about. The reason there is a cottage industry surrounding WWII is because we get to feel good about ourselves, and it's a compelling story.
WWI is death, death, death and then it ends, only for the parties to recuperate and do it all over again. Hell, it even invented the Holocaust, as the term was first used to describe the Armenian genocide, and so little people gave a shite about them that the US government still officially does not recognize it happened, for fear of alienating Turkey.
WWII is triumphalism. WWI is nihilism.

This may be true from the American perspective, but World War II was infinitely more depressing for those in Europe and Asia. Why? Because both continents were overrun and occupied by said clear cut villains.
World War I was depressing for the soldiers fighting on the front. World War II was depressing for just about everyone who wasn't living in the western hemisphere.

Not to start any additional shite, but this movie could easily get an Oscar nomination for costumes. They had to do double duty with the ancient Amazon styles and the WWI era costumes.
With Fantastic Beasts winning costume design last year and Suicide Squad winning makeup, I don't think WW being nominated is much of a stretch.

A New Hope alone won 6 Oscars in 1978. The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi also won Oscars.
Fail.

I'm sorry...where did I ever express the notion that I had one?
I was merely stating fact. Must facts always have points?

From Wonder Woman vs. Feminism to Superman, to Marvel vs. DC, to World War I to Oscars....
This thread is all over the place and....
Whew, I'm glad some are thinking Rotten Tomatoes "matters" THIS time, you know, now that this is getting good reviews.

This film doesn't have the fecal touch of Zach Snyder or David Goyer, so it might actually turn out well.

Certainly, and that would be fantastic, but the reaction to stuff like this...
quote:
A rollicking action adventure in the tradition of 'Indiana Jones', with a fully functioning sense of humour and the year's most lip-smackingly evil baddie.
quote:
What's striking about [Wonder Woman] is the movie's sense of elated lightness.
is going to be interesting to watch play out if true.

It does have Snyder's touch. He cast Gal Gadot himself. If she turns out to be the Christopher Reeve of the Wonder Woman franchise, that could end up being his biggest gift to the DCEU. Other than Flash (and that could turn out better than expected) he did cast the superhero leads extremely well.

Snyder's problem is he's always been style over substance. You can get away with that if you're a good storyteller. For example: Tim Burton. Snyder, however, isn't as talented as Burton is.

Still won't go. I don't care anything for the character.
ETA I won't go see Hawkman either.
