Weight Loss Food Question

I might post this on the OT as well.
I am trying to lose weight. I am currently 26 am I weigh 245 lbs. I need to get to 208 pounds.
I know this process takes time, but I am hoping to lose the weight in 6 to 8 months. Any advice on foods I should stay away from and which ones would be better.
I have recently signed up for Anytime Fitness (yeah, I know, waste of money). The cost is one of the things that will keep me going, and I honestly need something flexible due to my current job hours.
I already know that I need to stay low on the carbohydrates and stay away from too much sugar or fatty foods (caffeine, cookies, fried foods, soda,etc.)
EDIT: Thank you for all the suggestions. By the way, I typically eat Ham and Cheese Sandwiches at work for lunch.
Any alternatives to that would be appreciated. It needs to be something that does not require cooking

1) Don't eat as much as you are used to eating. You'd be surprised how little you can eat throughout the day and still have energy. You need to train your body to cope with that.
2) Stay away from high carb/sugary foods. Bread and pasta are main culprits for slowing down weight loss. Meat and Veggies are the best bets all the time. For hunger strikes, eat assorted nuts to take away hunger. Drinks lots and lots of water.
3) Exercise. Weight Lifting/Aerobics etc.
Main thing though is decrease the calorie intake significantly daily. Its really that simple but its definitely harder than it looks I know.

Eat proteins and stay away from carbs as much as possible. No sugar. water, splenda or diet soda. hit the treadmill for and hour at least 4 days a week.

Look up beyond diet. Its a program the wife signed us up for THEN told me about it...wanted me to give it a try. I wanted to eat better anyway. Long story short we started in Jan and have followed the meal plan (paid for) most of the time. We still cheat...and for me I changed NOTHING else. I am down 33lbs from 260
Not saying that one is the best to follow...but I have enjoyed making a good bit of the dishes and the results have been great. Good luck...my advice...dont do a diet...you sill stop said diet. Change how you eat and its easier to stick to it for the long haul.

Diet and exercise are great, but you should also invest some time in pondering why you're overeating. Bored? Take up a new hobby/skill, esp one that requires exertion (like tennis, or woodworking). Unresolved issues eating can be worked out with a therapist (your health insurance likely covers this). So dang many ppl caught in the yoyo diet cycle are deeply unhappy & food is their self-medication. Figure out if that's you & work as hard on your mental health as you do on your physical.

Download LoseIt app and log everything that goes in your body. Will really open your eyes to how many extra calories you take in that you may not realize.

Almost correct. You need to have less than 15-20 grams of carbs a day, moderate amounts of protein, and get the majority of your calories from fat and non starchy vegetables.

You don't have to cut out any specific food but of course cutting high carb and processed foods makes it much easier.
I just hit 100lbs two days ago. Didn't cut out a single food. Still enjoyed pizza and sandwiches. Just in moderation. Calories in, calories out.
Of course, it is a pain for most people to weigh food and count calories (you have to count everything, even cooking oils).. So you're probably better off going low carb.
Check out /r/loseit. They'll teach you about figuring out your TDEE and eating at a deficit. Or just Google TDEE calculator. It'll tell you how many calories you use in a day, then eat at a deficit of that.

You'll lose 2.5-3lbs a week. It's not hard, you just have to adjust. Get a calorie counting app and use it religiously.

I highly, HIGHLY recommend Weight Watchers. If you do it right, you will never feel deprived and it fricking works. Have done it several times and am currently doing it and have lost about 30 pounds. Combine it with a workout program and you will drop the weight fast.

look up the whole 30 challenge. There is a difference between just losing weight and losing weight and getting. This will help you do the latter. and the guidlines are laid out for you

You'll have a hard time losing weight if you can't cook for yourself.
Cut the sugar and grains and if it comes in a box or a bag it's not good for you.
Good protein and lots of veggies. Control your portions and exercise. There is no magic pill or diet.

Why 208? How did you come up with such a specific number?
Do not eat fast food. Ever. Any type.
Ham and cheese is fine. Avoid the mayo. Use wheat bread. Or try it as a wrap if it satisfies you.
Even when you don't feel like excersizing, just go. Walk on the treadmill for 30-45 minutes at least. Do something.
Stay positive. Don't be too hard on yourself. making the choice to wanting to be heathly is a huge first step.

No bread. No rice. No potatoes. No sugar. No alcohol. No cake, pie or other desserts. No Candy. No Mayo. No Hidden Valley, No salad dressing other than oil and vinegar. No bacon. No fried foods.
Eat protein (chicken, eggs, grilled or broiled pork chops, broiled fish, limited beef) and non starch vegetables (carrots, beets, Brussel sprouts, turnip greens, steamed cabbage, steamed or roasted asparagus and cauliflower, onions, tomatoes, celery, radishes, salad with balsamic dressing). Eat fruit. Apples, Peaches, Nectarines, plums, pears, oranges. Eat beans and peas in moderation. Green Beans all you want.
Learn to substitute spices for salt.
Drink water - lots of water. Avoid salt as much as possible. Find a Soluble fiber and use it daily. There is a gummy bear like chewable soluble fiber at Sam's that you can use as a bedtime treat. Two of them a day will keep the stuff moving through you.
Find the recipe for Dolly Pardon Soup and learn to like it because you can eat a lot of the stuff.
Replace your ham sandwich lunch with a couple of boiled eggs and an apple.
You much learn to embrace and learn to live with some hunger at all times, eventually learning that it won't kill you to be hungry. Eventually you will shrink your stomach and it will get better.
When eating, remember that your stomach should be about the size of your closed fist. That is how much you need to eat at any meal, and no more.
Get a big big bag of baby carrots and snack on them.
Get a calorie counting ap (like "My Fitness Pal") for your cell phone and do not cheat on it. Tell it how much weight you want to lose each week and it will tell you how many calories you can eat and then help you count them.
