When Did Easter Become Like A 2nd Christmas?

Growing up, our Easter Baskets included traditional candy like jelly beans, Goldbrick eggs, Chocolate bunnies etc plus colored hard-boiled eggs and a stuffed animal like a bunny, lamb, chick etc.
I'm looking at my FB feed and all the Mom's posting pictures of the elaborate Easter baskets that include candy plus full on real gifts. I'm seeing video games, a few Beats headphones, 1 iPhone, toys like Barbies, Legos, a Barbie Dream House, sports gear, a bike and a Powerwheel(not all for the same kid, but various kids in different families).
This kind of giving for Easter was not the norm when I was growing up. When did the Easter Bunny become Santa Claus?

When Social Media Moms started the equivalent of a dick measuring contest over how spoiled they can make their little brats.

It's great to live in the USA. But yes, that is getting out of hand.

That's your problem. Look at me society. I can't pay my rent but I'll buy my 6 year old an IPhone so people think I have money. Get the little frick some gum and pay your mother fricking rent.

Same here. I just got candy in an Easter basket. And I'm still in my 20's so it's not like this was ages ago.

Ya we got candy and maybe one game, or vhs/dvd each.
Sounds like it may be getting wilder than that.

I remember on Easter when I was 12 I got a carton of cigarettes. My old man said "smoke up Johnny!"

I remember getting the occasional Super or N64 game, but all candy other than that.

I got a couple plastic eggs with jelly beans in them, a little chocolate bunny and an orange...
But, that was a while ago..

I remember one year we got a basketball goal. But my brother and I were really into basketball at the time and parents would've probably gotten it for us around that time anyway as it was like 9 months to Christmas and we were essentially wandering the neighborhood and shooting on goals when nobody was home. Sobit was an "Easter gift"that year
We just put some colors , a few little activity books, and little games, and stuff like that in our kids baskets.

I've been wondering the same thing. My ex gf in college invited me to her house for Easter one year. While driving there, she was like "Oh my gosh, my mom made you an awesome easter basket! I helped pick it out." I'm thinking "Ok cool, love candy and chocolate, can't wait." I got 2 Polos, a bottle of cologne, and a shite ton of candy. Probably $150-200 worth of shite. She got literally twice as much as me. I've still been shocked by this

My kids get the equivalent of what I got.... candy, book, clothes, a movie and maybe a video game to share..

Maybe people just enjoy giving. What do you think the generation before you thought of your basket full of candy and stuffed animals?

I am 42 and Easter was always that way for us as kids. Guess I just had awesome parents.
