If so, how did it affect your insurance rate?

Why isn't this standard equipment in all vehicles? Like seatbelts...

It depends on how much you drive on a daily basis and your driving behavior.

In a big city, with lots of stop and go traffic and quick stops, you're kind of hosed. The device records all of your quick stops.

I drive 50 miles per day round trip for work, so it wasn't worth it for me.

My rate would be $1200 a month with that thing in my truck. Now get the hell in the right lane and out of my damn way!

Depends on how you drive. You can get up to 30% max discount, but depends on how you drive (hard brakes, fast accel, late night driving, amount of driving time). It can hurt your rate if you constantly slam bakes or floor the gas pedal, but as long as you drive fairly normal it should help you.

ETA: I ended up with 15% credit

No but If you could figure out how to hack into like the boys at VW did to beat emissions tests you could make a fortune in Louisiana

I had one. Was working from home at the time and barely drove. Only got dinged for hard stops a handful of times. Got no discount. You are giving them valuable data for free.

If you don't drive like a bat outta hell and you're not out all night every night it may benefit you.

Progressive, Safeco, and most other major auto carriers just took a statewide rate increase so if you can save a little do so.

I used it in my car and saved 12%. They told me it couldn't increase my premium when I first ordered the device. Don't know how true that is.

I did and got 26% off. That was several years ago, the device is gone now and they still honor it

I did it about 5 years ago. At the time we had 3 cars, but one was too old to use the device. My wife worked from home, and I mostly drove the car that didn't qualify. I got 30% discount on one, and 25% on the other. My wife's hard braking cost the 5%. The good thing is that we have since replaced her card, and they didn't require her to put in the snapshot again.
