But he can't so...

LeBron will not pass MJ. MJ changed the entire culture of the NBA off the court, on top of all his on the court success. LeBron has been the biggest benefactor of what MJ did.

Except he's not in danger of surpassing Jordan, Jordan didn't spectacularly fall apart in a finals series. Jordan didn't bolt twice because he couldn't win with what he had. Jordan didn't take games off because he was tired.

quote:I like how Bird with 3 rings can be ahead of Duncan with 5, but Lebron can't be ahead of Bird with 3 and others with 4 or 5.
Rings are a team accomplishment and should be treated as such.
Fair and balanced!!!

He can also annoy the absolute piss out of people with some of the stuff he says and does.
He does, but most people aren't applying that standard to Jordan, who is a dickhead by almost any measure.
For the record, I think Jordan is better, but there is no denying that a lot of people nitpick LeBron in an attempt to downplay his greatness using standards that they never applied to MJ.

quote:1. No one is really acting like he's a joke, that's a straw man.
I don't know why people act like Kobe is a joke now.
2. Understanding efficiency better now, I think more and more people are finally saying what I've said all along, that he's closer to top 20-25 than top 5. Not saying a majority, just saying more and more. You seem to think that's saying he's a joke, I disagree, saying he's one of the 20 best ever is kind of a good thing.
3. It is LOL absurd to think Kobe is better than Lebron. He's also last on the list of players listed by that poster, pretty comfortably IMO.

The classic "slightly overrated for so long that he became underrated"
He's not as good as Lebron, obviously, but he's definitely one of the best ever.
I'll say this - in his prime, I'll take Kobe over any guard not named Michael Jordan.

Lebron was created he hasn't earned his stature. He's the only "best player on the planet" who's had rules changed to help him. All the other greats, (Wilt, Jordan, Shaq) had to have rules put in to slow them down. He's forced on ppl the NBA from the commish to the refs are instructed to prop him up so that this generation can have a hero. He's a complete phony and is a product not a superstar he doesn't belong in the convo with any of the players I named.

I'll also say this about Kobe
He's probably the closest thing to Jordan we've seen in a literal sense - I mean some of their moves are identical, and Kobe's "assassin" persona that everyone loved to reference was derived from an attitude of borderline sociopathic competitiveness that he shared with MJ.
Lebron's comparison has always been more of a super Magic than anything Jordan.
So to review: Kobe is a slightly worse MJ, Lebron is a rich man's Magic

I've never listened to him because his material is shite on its face, but he's on the money here.
Men in their 30's have romanticized Jordan—that is to say, the Jordan sneakers their daddies bought them—to the point that Lebron has become a threat to the romance of their childhoods.
It's nothing short of pathetic, and I love triggering these weenies by saying things like "What Lebron did in the 2016 Finals is something Jordan could never do."

People that say Lebron is the second best ever never saw Jordan magic bird or any of those older guys play. Millinials are the only ones who think he's top 2 or 3.

There is no better place to be on the internet than this board near/during the NBA Playoffs.

I'm critical of Lebron bc he's gay not bc he's better than mj. 6-0 in the finals > 3-4
Posted on 3/24/17 at 12:24 pm to Madking
What a stupid post. Lebron's ratio of free throws to drives to the lane is lower than any major player in history. He's the best player in the world despite being default screwed by the refs night in, night out.
