This is just dumb loyalty to either MJ or Kobe. MJ and Lebron at this point are the only two with legitimate claims to GOAT status. You can downplay it all you want, but it's very conceivable that he can eclipse MJ in the eyes of everyone who isn't a diehard Jordan fan before he retires.

What he said is very true. For the record, Lebron is not as good as MJ, but that hasn't stopped people from getting nervous about it.

Those Bulls teams in the 1990's kept the following Hall of Famers from winning an NBA championship:

1) Patrick Ewing
2) Charles Barkley
3) John Stockton
4) Karl Malone
5) Gary Payton

And had Jordan not decided to play baseball for two years, I wonder if that list would also include Clyde Drexler and Hakeem Olajuwon.

Colin Cowherd is the most ignorant idiotic sports personality ever. The dude lies about stats people and everything els. If he has an idea he ignores any facts presented to him and says what he thinks trumps anything els. He's a fricking moron. Btw people hate Lebronze because he's completely unlikable and not a top 5 player all time.

Absolutely.

I'm of the opinion that it would take one hell of a showing to close his career in order to surpass Jordan.

It's gonna be fun to watch these last few years either way.

Cowherd is right on this one.

ETA: Also, Jordan would not be thought of the same way had been under the social media microscope during his playing days.

Yep. I don't think he gets there by what I think it would take.

But he'll sure as hell be closer than anyone else is to MJ, since he already is just that.

Jordan did not play baseball for 2 years. He came back in 1994-95 and the Bulls lost to Shaq and the Magic in the playoffs.

And in those playoffs Jordan averaged 31.5 ppg which is more than he averaged in the playoffs the next 2 years. He also had a fg% of 48.4%, which is higher than he had in the playoffs in 92-93, 95-96, 96-97, and 97-98 (all championship years).

The Bulls just got beat.

I wouldn't necessarily say that, either...

Look, Lebron as a basketball player, on the court, playing his game... it's masterful. He's without much of an argument the 2nd best to ever play.

He can also annoy the absolute piss out of people with some of the stuff he says and does.

It's not malicious. I don't think he's a bad guy or anything.

He just isn't inherently likable to some people.

The real problem is that some of those people can't separate the two.

Rings are a team accomplishment and should be treated as such.

Game.set.match. Lock it up, throw away the key. Nothing more needs to be said, this is it.

I don't know why people act like Kobe is a joke now. It's like they only remember him the last few years of his career.

In his prime he was unstoppable.
