All those years of alcohol and drug abuse really fricked up James' voice and it shows in live performances.

Mark Tremonti has the perfect voice for it and is about a 10x better guitarist. Although his solo gig and Alterbridge are amazing, I can just see it now. Mark destroying Master of Puppets or Enter Sandman. I'm sure Metallica fans are tired of the wannabe thrash the boys have been putting out recently.

And then get Trujillo canned with Newsted as his replacement. Welcome to the glory days again, my friends.

There is simply no reason to have Metallica without Hetfield. If he can't do it, it should disappear. Maybe it should have disappeared 25 years ago.

But, what you're suggesting is ridiculous.

For all practical purposes, it should have been James Hetfield and Metallica. There - I said it.

I always wonder what would have happened if Kirk would've been in Cliffs bed when the crash happened.

I wonder if they would have had the nerve to ask Dave to rejoin.

James does not get the respect he deserves. Im not a big fan of anything post IJFA but the masterpieces this guy put in from 1983-1989 are hard to top.

Mark Tremonti is one of the nicest, least pretentious people in the industry. And he's a technically brilliant player and understands melody and song structure about as good as anybody. But he's a perfect fit with Myles Kennedy . So there is no need to melt about him or Metallica.

Did James even do non-alcohol drugs? I thought that was Lars' deal. In any event, you're wrong. He still sounds pretty damn good and his playing is just fine.

10x better guitarist.
What a preposterous claim. Tremonti could not have written the solo for MoP or To Live Is to Die in a million years. That's because they are genius on a different scale.

The last 2 albums have been great.

Tremonti doesn't need to front Metallica...he's got two great bands right now with Alter Bridge and his own solo project. Plus, he's always got that Creed reunion 2.0 in his back pocket.

I think he means the new Metallica album.

But the new Alter Bridge album is not good at all and a major step down from all, their other stuff. The recent Tremonti album owns it.

I don't know what the heck you're listening to, but the last two albums were good thrash. As good as Kill 'Em All or Master? Well, nothing is. And yea, the MIXING was weird in Death Magnetic. But the writing was fine. Sod off, they're playing good music again.

Though, I haven't had the pleasure of seeing them live, so I can't technically speak to his voice. But yea, it's James or no Metallica.

Just what Metallica needs....become another Foreigner and capitalize on the name with zero OG members (minus a blue moon appearance by Lou G).

What legacy?

What they need to do is put Mustaine back at lead or rhythm and beg Jason to come back and play bass and tour ONE LAST TIME and play the Holy Trinity of "Ride the Lightning", "Master of Puppets", and "...And Justice for All", being that the 30th anniversary of the latter is coming up. James can sing. Or Kirk can take a hike. I want to see Dave play with them once.
