Better Alternative to Paxil

My PCP prescribed me 10mg of the generic form of Paxil for bad health anxiety I've been experiencing recently. I went home and googled it and see these horrible side effects, especially when trying to stop taking them. I don't plan to take anxiety meds long term(maybe 6 months to a year), so I'd like to try something that is easier to taper off with less side effects. Would Zoloft, Prozac, Lexapro etc be better for this?
I'm not familiar with these meds at all as I have no history of any disorder or mental illness.

ETA: I don't want to seem insensitive - either you have serious health problems and are understandably anxious about it or the anxiety is mental health condition. I was only making flippant comments about the latter.

Totally depends on your brain chemistry. Unfortunately, it's just trial and error until you find the ideal one. I've taken all of those listed over the past 20 years until I settled into Lexapro (wasn't terrible) and then a fairly similar one called Celexa almost 10 years ago.

All meds have side effects. Did you look up the others?
I've had luck with using Prozac to taper off Effexor and completely avoiding the withdrawal effects LINK

Almost any other SSRI is better than Paxil due to the issues surrounding withdrawal later.
Most physicians who prescribed it nowadays are doing it out of old habit.
It works just as well as any other drug in its class, but it can SOMETIMES be difficult to taper.
Use Zoloft, Lexapro, or ideally Prozac which has no withdrawal issues due to its prolonged half life.

Buspar might be worth a try

I found that Celexa and Welbutrin worked the best while I was on them. They all have side effects though. It's all about what you can live with.

We don't use paxil much anymore here anymore, but it's not worse than any of the others as far as potential side effects go. Notice I said potential.

Not to get too nosy and you obviously don't have to answer but I went through a similar situation last summer into the fall. Did something happen to make you start having anxiety or did it come on at random?
As for your question I tried Lexapro first and it was awful and after a total mental breakdown I got switched to Cymbalta which has been good but apparently can be awful to get off of. It's been about 6 months and I'm planning on talking to my Dr or Psych about starting the process of getting off.
Good luck, I know it's a terrible place to be.

Welbutrin is pretty good. Also, reading the side effects is a great way to make your anxiety worse. Make sure you're really ready to quit taking them when you finally do. Anxiety can come back worse if you rush it.

I had a severe case panic disorder. I was prescribed Paxil and it worked like a charm. It shut down my panic attacks full stop. I was already working out 5 times per week, sleeping right, getting plenty of sex. My life was great except for the regular panic attacks that would come out of no where. I was reluctant to try Paxil but the panic attacks were so severe that they were disrupting my daily life. I took it for about 8 months. The first day or two I felt really weird and could not sleep. After that I felt fine. I quit cold turkey and only suffered very mild brain zaps for for a day or two.

It does help but it depends on the severity of the anxiety and whether stress related or full blown panic disorder.

Yea I'm not saying meds are never needed. No matter what level of anxiety/depression someone has, exercise helps a lot. But its hard to force yourself to exercise when you're feeling like crap.
