Well, south Florida and the panhandle of Florida are totally different yet there's a nice track in homestead which is in Miami area.

Well one difference between Miami and LA is that Miami is a travel destination (I will get to New Orleans in a minute). If you pay attention to where NASCAR attacks are they are located in one of two types of areas:
A) a smaller place like Bristol, TN or Talladega, AL that isn't at all a travel destination BUT the local area has a lot of NASCAR fans
B) an area that doesn't have as many NASCAR fans but is a travel destination from anywhere in the country such as Miami, Las Vegas, Fontana, CA, or Chicago

Now obviously New Orleans is a travel destination but I imagine finding a area of land big enough and more importantly high enough to build a track within enough distance of the actual tourist area is very difficult

I thought I hear something a while back about Louisiana getting a track. Maybe not.

I've never heard it but that doesn't mean it wasn't discussed

One problem is right now NASCAR doesn't need to expand is schedule at all which means it would have to take a race away from an already existing track to give a race to a new track

This is further complicated by the fact that new tracks in the last 20 or so years just aren't built without the promise of a cup race

As an aside, NASCAR really should cut its schedule back to 30-32 races as opposed to 36 but like all sports I seriously doubt that ever happens

Because that's where it was invented you retard. The further you get away from there the less popular it gets? No way!

It's popular in Michigan, Illinois and other Midwest states than it is in LA. Thank you for the condescending remarks.

Lol. I'm in mid 20s. I just don't know a lot of people that enjoy NASCAR. Most people I know act like the South Park episode that parodied NASCAR.

"We're gonna drive real fast and turn it to the left!"

There was talk about 10-20 years about building a track on the Louisiana/Mississippi border around the Stennis area.

I guess nothing ever became of that.

That's real great Ed. They have one in Las Vegas too. There's even some smatterings of NASCAR fans out that way. Doesn't change the fact that the vast majority of NASCAR fans live in the area he mentioned in the OP. The moonshine area. The area that invented the sport.

I lived in southern Pennsylvania 20 years ago. Jeff Gordon gear everywhere. There was a NASCAR shop in the local mall/shopping center.

There have been talks for years that Nascar wanted to purchase land for a new track in Louisiana. At one point years ago they were looking for land out in Avondale by TPC. Then it was somewhere out in the sticks west of Kentwood/Amite In the ST Helena Parish region.

This is the other problem. Several tracks have a historical racing value to them like Dover and Bristol. Taking a race away would be a detriment to their profits and that not going to happen.

NASCAR is just gay Paul. Just gay

Also dying, I'm pretty sure. I know the ratings have been down around 20 points every year for the past like 5 years

It's more popular in North Louisiana, but the population up there isn't really big enough to matter.
