Also dying, I'm pretty sure. I know the ratings have been down around 20 points every year for the past like 5 years This post was edited on 3/14 at 8:37 am
So it's pulling in negative ratings? Interesting

People in southern La are never going to care about NASCAR until LSU sponsors one of the cars or until a prominent driver emerges with a french name and lineage. Maybe someone like Jean Girard.

You're not a math whiz eh? If you start 100 dollars and you decrease the number of dollars you have each year by 10%. Then year 2 it's 10% from 90, year 3 it's 10% of 81, etc. Point is, after 10 years you have more than zero

Not everyone in North Louisiana is a redneck just like not everyone in South Louisiana is a coonass. Believe it or not, we know how to boil crawfish up here. Everyone also knows USL is Tech's little brother.

There was a proposal for a track outside of Monroe to the South. The Richwood residents obviously weren't the target demographic as they voted it down overwhelmingly. Too short sighted to advance. They didn't want the noise. Nevermind the vast amount of money it would bring to the area.

Track was proposed to go between I55, Hwy 1049 and Hwy 1050. I worked on it for a bit. Had site plans and everything. It was supposed to have a boat drag strip/race area.

I was born and raised in Baton Rouge and have only watched maybe 20 NASCAR races in my lifetime. Might be a dumb question but are there any famous NASCAR drivers from Southern Louisiana ? I apologize for not following the sport more closely.

If by "20 points" you meant "20%" then fine but I understood your post to mean they had fallen 20 ratings points. Which is an issue bc they never had a rating over 20.0

Skip Manning of Bogalusa was NASCAR rookie of the year in the early 70s. Haven't really heard of another since.

Hal Martin is the closest recently. Drove in xfinity series in 2013 I think. Originally from Galliano. Had backing of Chouest.

lived in southern Pennsylvania 20 years ago. Jeff Gordon gear everywhere. There was a NASCAR shop in the local mall/shopping center
20 years ago NASCAR was at its peak, it was like you described in lots of places. There were NASCAR stores in Iowa and Minnesota. They built a track (Iowa Speedway) in Newton, IA. Fast forward to today and you don't see near the fans or interest. The Iowa track still has races and find well, but you don't see nesr the gear you used to.
I bet it's like that in that area of Pennsylvania?you were living in.

Iowa really has suffered since it lost the sweepstakes to get a cup race that Kentucky won
It's too long to explain but it's all about who the track's parent company is

Fsir enough. I could have probably used a better choice of words

You're right about the peak being 20 years ago. I would say 2004 was when it started to take a plunge.

In the early 1990s NASCAR wanted to build a track in the West Monroe/Calhoun area because they wanted a track on I-20 between Talladega and their westcoast tracks. Well, local politicians screwed it and would not work with NASCAR on taxes etc. That track is now located in Ft. Worth. Typical of Louisiana to screw that up.
