I'm personally not desensitized, those stories break my heart. But yes when multiple murders happen daily people tend to start tuning out a bit.

that should only speak to how dire the situation is...
No argument here.

Maybe I'm being harsh because of the sheer number of victims and knowing that there were kids among the injured parade watchers...but I feel no sympathy for someone who drives drunk and injures/kills someone because of their stupidity to get shitfaced and get behind the wheel.

Point well-taken, and very sad state of humankind. But this line of thinking or lack of involvement isn't exclusive to New Orleans. You can easily pick out a story that's getting more public outrage than it should in any city in America while crimes like this little girl's death go hardly noticed.

Was this guy's sister really in the Lamborghini? Don't feel like actually researching it.

No. The brother of the girl killed in the Lamborghini crash was one of those hurt in this accident.

who cares, we're talking about new Orleans, but we've come full circle...that's why I think this guy will get it worse than he should

NOLA has such an insecurity problem. this kid made mardi gras national news for the wrong reasons

What do you think he should get?

Any city would prosecute someone who made national headlines harshly. Why are you so focused on trashing NOLA for doing something that would happen anywhere?

You're saying New Orleans sucks so bad because of this. I'm simply saying it isn't just New Orleans so the venue or city shouldn't have any role in the point you're trying to make unless you're using the whole discussion as a means to bash New Orleans.

What city do you live in?

It's not about what he should get but rather why he's getting it. Does this kid need 10 years in the pokey? No

no city would give you extra stank on your sentence because of regional insecurity. To be fair, New Orleans hasn't done that, I just suspect they will

I lived in NOLA for a long time...it's rather unique in that regard. Again, increase in shootings, decrease in fatalities and Mitch landrieu takes the credit for what is luck and black people holding their gun sideways and yanking their arm for dramatic effect when shooting at people

It's unparalleled in the denial and refusal to acknowledge that it is a problem.

He's getting it for committing the crime

He injured over 30 people while driving drunk. Are you serious?

You don't even know what he's getting yet.

Your expectations for what he should get seem very out of line based on laws on the books. Why shouldn't he get 10 years?

Am I taking crazy pills? What he did was sexual assault, regardless of what you were OK with having done to you in your younger years.

I stopped caring in the early 90s. It's when most of my family stopped watching the news

You're right, I used the wrong word. It's oral sexual battery. Laws

quote:

A. Oral sexual battery is the intentional touching of the anus or genitals of the victim by the offender using the mouth or tongue of the offender, or the touching of the anus or genitals of the offender by the victim using the mouth or tongue of the victim, when any of the following occur:

(1) The victim, who is not the spouse of the offender, is under the age of fifteen years and is at least three years younger than the offender.
(2) The offender is seventeen years of age or older and any of the following exist:
(a) The act is without the consent of the victim, and the victim is prevented from resisting the act because either of the following conditions exist:
(i) The victim has paraplegia, quadriplegia, or is otherwise physically incapable of preventing the act due to a physical disability.
(ii) The victim is incapable, through unsoundness of mind, of understanding the nature of the act, and the offender knew or should have known of the victim's incapacity.
(b) The act is without the consent of the victim, and the victim is sixty-five years of age or older.

ETA: And the punishment for the crime:

quote:

C.(1) Whoever commits the crime of oral sexual battery shall be punished by imprisonment, with or without hard labor, without benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence, for not more than ten years.

I think you're a bit misinformed tbh. All cities lie about their crime stats especially those with tourism concerns. Take Amity Island for example.

you can church it up however you want, but the world has nuance unless there's an underlying agenda or ulterior motive

realistically here's his sentencing breakdown

3 months for lsu losing
3 months for losing to bama
6 monts for losing in new orleans
6 months for it being a title game
6 months for it being a rematch of a game lsu won.

Just GTFO. You look like an arse arguing this. You don't like NOLA anymore, that's cool. That doesn't give you a "talk out of your arse all you want" card.
