Yes, I live in this complex. I'm OT poor and this is all I could afford with my first job out of college.

In the lakes at our apartments, someone put their large dead pit bull in a garabage bag and just threw it in the water and now it's just floating around. Called the non emergency police line and they said call animal control. Called animal control and they said call waste management. Can't even get ahold of waste management.

So I called my apartment complex. Left a VM the night I saw it and they never called me back. Next day when I got home from work, it was still there. Thankfully the office was still open. I called and they said they were going to just let it float around until it sinks.

Essentially, what can I do about this large dead pit bull that's been floating in the lake for three days now besides get in the water and drag it out myself? It's starting to stink up the entire place and is definitely not what I call beautiful scenery either.

Side note, would not recommend this spider infested place to anyone.

If anyone with connections with the news or health agencies need more information, they can feel free to email me at Indfanfromcol@yahoo.com.

ETA:

I decided to go ahead and upload the pics so maybe someone with any type of connections might see if and it gets some traction. The pics are somewhat graphic. Do not scroll down if you do not want to see them. One not time stamped was from 2/13/17. Second one was from today.

Second page has more info from another poster. To also note, the lake the complex is on is say maybe a quarter mile long? It appears the dog was originally at the very front, and then was moved to the very back of the complex.

Update:

Animal Control called me this morning. I'm guessing someone I emailed with my personal information forwarded it to them? Because they never took my info down when I originally called them. Thankfully my wife is at the complex to show them where the dog is at.

Essentially, they can do nothing with the body. They checked to see if the dog had a chip so they could contact the owners, but the dog didn't. Also to note, the maintenance staff followed my wife and the animal control people at a distance throughout the entire complex to see what they were doing. I'm guessing they knew it was about the dog.

So I live in this same apartment complex. Let me tell you the saga of this dog from my perspective and then some more about the complex.

Last Sunday (Feb. 5), my wife (no pics) and I noticed something in the lake. I thought it was a big turtle shell because of the shape and brown color. It was kind of away from the shore tho, so we couldn't say for sure. My wife thought it was a tire.

We didn't think much of it because it was mostly submerged. I went to check on it a couple more times over the next few days. On Tuesday morning (Feb. 7), it had washed up near the shore and then you could clearly tell that it was a dog.

We immediately called the complex management and left a voicemail. I went over and told them about it myself later that day. We then went back and told them again the next day when still nothing had been done about it.

The dog carcass was STILL in the water as of Friday (Feb. 10) and was super bloated and gross looking. I spoke to another resident that day who reported it as well.

On Sunday morning (Feb. 12), I went out to see that the dog had washed up on shore and the carcass was literally just laying there on the land like 5 feet from the water. It looked like someone had just dragged the dog out of the water and left it there.

I went back out to check on it in the afternoon and someone had wrapped it up in a white plastic bag. I figured animal control had come and wrapped it up and was coming back to grab it that day. But Sunday rolled on and that carcass just lay there all day baking in the sun. It smelled too disgusting to approach at that point.

So Monday comes, the carcass was still there in the morning, but disappeared sometime around noon. I later saw one of the maintennance workers pouring bleach on the ground where the carcass had been laying for the previous couple of days. So I figured that the maintenance workers had finally disposed of the body and were cleaning up the area. I guess I was wrong...

I literally didn't think anything of it until I saw OP's post. Now I'm really disgusted. People fish in that lake all the time. Some people let their dogs swim in it. I think it's open to the public on the side of the lake opposite the apartment complex. I can't believe they legit just pushed the dog back into the water.

Honestly though, I'm not really surprised. Last summer, they fired (or he quit?) the head maintenance guy. His replacement is a nice guy or whatever, but this place has gone to hell since then.

The grassy areas are minefields of dog poo. At one point, a trash can was tipped over for weeks and the trash (including dog poo bags) was just sitting on the ground. They've stopped refilling the dog poo bag dispensers. A bunch of people lost their cars in the August flood (the east and part of the south portions of the complex flooded) and some of the flooded cars are still just sitting there.

The dumpsters overflow literally every week and the ducks rummage through the trash and spread it all over the place. There is a dock on the lake with some benches that the ducks like to chill on so the entire dock and the benches are just covered in duck poo. Even the sidewalks are covered in duck poo. Some nutria live in the lake and they've started eating all the trees by the lake so there's just dead trees laying by the side of the lake.

There's a large tree that fell down during the storms last week near the entrance to the complex and it's still just laying there. It was partially laying in the road for a couple of days and I ended up just moving it myself.

In the OP, it says they take section 8 vouchers here now. I honestly had no idea that was the case. I feel like that's something they should've told us. We definitely won't be renewing our lease now.

I can't believe management is just going to ignore it.

I've had to help remove many a dead animal in my time...

It's fricking pathetic.

From what I can tell from as close as I can get to it, this dog was built muscle wise and some of the sharpest teeth I've ever seen. Guessing it had died in a dog fight?

To top it all off though, I can't get anyone to give a shite. Not even the damn management that runs this place. I take that back. They did do something about the dog. They must have gotten a stick, and pushed it further down the lake. Because it "somehow" floated away further.

Well, in their defense, it is windy today.

They should still clean it up.

Did you pull it out of the garbage bag? If not, how'd you know it was a dog?

The trash bag wasn't tied up. You can see the dogs head and the outline of his body because it's one of those white trash bags.

The reason I first checked it is because I thought it was a dead body. Place has gotten sketchy since they started taking section 8 vouchers a couple of months after I signed my lease.

Honestly, why would I make this up? What purpose would that serve at all?

One of the most disturbing things I've seen here in all the years I've been posting here.
