My parents got a 2016 about 4 months ago to haul the grandkids in. Top of the line and was barely used with 1100 miles on it. $46.5k otd. The one they have has the captains chairs for easy access to the third row. Most of the time the third row stays down to haul groceries and what not. They love it. They also were deciding between the pilot and highlander. They are both good reliable choices, just have to find the best deal.

Also, I heard people mention the 4 runner. The 4 runner is body on frame, literally an suv on top of a Tacoma frame. The highlander is unibody and drives much more like a car with a smoother ride. Also rear wheel drive vs front in the highlander

So Highlander inherits a semi quasi Lexus front fascia but everyone dogs the RX and NX.....

A couple of my bros are married with kids. They both have the 15' Highlander and love it.

You can get about the same car and in a few areas better in Kia Sorrento for about 10k less. Consumer Reports recently rated them and the KIA was top in the category SUV with the Highlander second by only 1 point.

Anyone have one? Thinking about getting the ole wife one? Also considering a 2017 Honda Pilot?

2017 Highlander has that annoying start/stop feature.

Get the Pilot, which does not have it unless you get the highest trim level. Or find a 2016 Highlander.

How many kids are you thinking about having? If just 1, you may want to look at other options since you won't really need that 3rd row of seats much, and Highlander's are a lot more expensive than other good options.

I'd consider a Subaru Outback, which is a lot less expensive. It's got a lot of cargo space in the back and it comes with the crossbars installed on the top, allowing even more space on the top. It's a highly rated car, gets good gas mileage, and all wheel drive.

I don't like what Honda did with The Pilot. It looks like a minivan now. Also, keep in mind all of Honda's issues with recalls last year. They screwed us over. They didn't have the parts to replace something that made the car unsafe and refused to provide a rental car. Their customer service is crap.

After 2 years that Yukon Denali will fall apart faster than a North Korean rocket.

It does look weirder than the 2016 models.

The RX is hideous. The NX slightly less so with the horizontal bars on the grill.

Just test drove it and several other vehicles for the wife. it came down to it and the Acura MDX and rdx.

We looked at the limited, looked at the MDX with the tech package and the rdx with the advance pkg.

Liked all three and all rode well. She preferred the Acura's ride and how she sat it them. She felt more comfortable. We decided we didn't need the third row (no kids), so we are gonna roll with the RDX.

Has a few more features and she likes the interior better on the RDX for just a tad more than a limited highlander. In that 40k price range those are the 2 that stood out. She drove damn near everything.

For the record, with the seat all the way back on the RDX I still had enough room to be comfortable on a long drive. I'm 5'10". Has a little pep with 279 hp V6.

They have. The insides look nice, but the exterior looks like a design-by-committee disaster.

It's basically a modern day Pontiac Aztek with ribbed plastic injection molded panels and unnecessary creases in the sheet metal.

There's so much going on there that you barely notice that the fenders are not the same shape front to back. They didn't carry over the crease from the front panel into the front door. Not sure if that's to save on stamping or because their weird styling just couldn't be carried into the front door because of the sheet metal they use.

Just horrible design work all around.

I agree they do look more like a mini van now you can never go wrong with the yukon denali tho...i recommend to all especially if you have 2+ kids

Yea just get a private limo to chauffeur your family around everywhere since money isn't an option. Highlanders and Pilot's in this thread and you recommend a Yukon Dinali. fricking OT'ers

My wife has a Highlander and loves it. I love it as well. Great vehicle. She will def get another one for her next vehicle

Drove that too... that RX is cramped as frick in the front. Felt like things were closing in on me. Wife didn't care for it either.... the guys big selling feature was the "hold" feature that you could initialize and not have to hold the brake in traffic. Yeh, not what you try to demonstrate when my wife is driving the car. Hard enough to trust her driving much less a button to keep the brakes applied b/c someone is too lazy to hold the brake.

Can't decide if they are the ugliest vehicles I've ever seen or not. It's between the new Lexus products and the new Toyota Prius.

I like the 4Runner, but I'm actually afraid what Toyota will do to it if it gets redesigned. They could very well ruin a cool vehicle.

the SR5's are embarrassing, so ugly...you'll have to buy a brush bumper just to protect that front grill

I put 300K miles on my Yukon and the only thing I had to change were the front wheel bearings (normal for all high mileage vehicles).

How'd the interior look? Be honest. Did your radio buttons have any of the paint left at all? How about the steering wheel?

My Tahoe was probably the best vehicle I've ever had by a long shot. They charge a damn arm and a leg for them now.

I would like something like that, but smaller. The 4Runner Trail is nice, but the front end styling is a little busy.
