Balance is my favorite. Very little keyboards, awesome guitar riffs and solo's. No wonder Eddie was Dimebags idol. Sammy's vocals are polished! Great production as well.

I'm sorry - I thought you wanted to talk about Van Halen.

Don't Wanna Hear What Love Can Do and Not Enough are fine songs from that album

Balance had some strong work on it. The band was fighting badly at that point and Sammy was on the way out. Can't Stop Loving you was a big Top 40 hit.

Hard to capture the Van Hagar magic of 5150. What an awesome album and great songs.

Diehard Van Halen fans, the ole school ones, will tell you nothing touches the first six albums with Roth. And to an extent they're right. Van Halen was a relentless machine in those early days. Became more Top 40 and pop later. Either way - $$$

But, it's not DLR's vocals, Michael Anthony's hard driving bass, and his backup vocals can't be replaced!!!

I remember hearing VH 1 when it came out. I was amazed at how fresh and new it sounded. It ushered in a completely new era of rock music - a real game changer.

I grew up across the street from as rabid a Van Halen fan as there was in those days - (pre-1984) - Van Halen was what it was back then - a solid band with a fantastic, once-in-a-generation guitar player and an unstable, mediocre lead singer (who, when he wanted to be was a fantastic front man).

I know it's heresy, but I liked Van Hagar better - it was more cogent, stable and it had most of the elements of the old Van Halen, with better vocals and, generally, better songs. Now, what it lacked was the raw edge that the early VH records had - but fans of the DLR era forget how polished 1984 was at times - it's not like they traded the old VH for the new - the new was happening and it was better that it happened with Sammy out front than Dave.

Just my $0.02.

1984 was the first LP I ever purchased.

But 5150 was the album I always listened to all the way thru...over and over.

Sure. Jump was quite poppy. However, Sammy never did anything that approached the blistering-ness of "Girl Gone Bad" (and I like Van Hagar.)

I'll give Van Halen credit for a large part of my hearing loss.

7th Row.My ears buzzed for a week afterwards.

Technically,it was Van Hagar.
