First the R51 failure and now the new RP9 pistol. Slide stop for lefties is completely non-functional He also reports many malfunctions on the first range session.

Pretty sad what Freedom Group has done to a manufacturer that historically pumped out quality firearms. My first shotgun and rifle as a young kid were a 20 gauge 870 and .243 model 700 (which is still my primary rifle). Sucks knowing that I'll probably never purchase another firearm from them if this continues.

Which is worse now, Remington or Hi-point?

I have an 870 that's probably 6-7 years old and it's perfectly fine

If you're talking new-manufacture handguns, get the Hi-Point.
My friend at the LSP Crime Lab says the Hi-Pernt triggers are still lousy, but the pistols are pretty dang reliable.

The REAL lesson is that you never buy a self-defense handgun that has been on the market less than 3-4 years. It often takes that long for the manufacturer (I don't much care who it is) to learn of, and correct, all the design/manufacturing flaws.
Most manufacturers will gladly repair a defective handgun. The trick is to be sure that after it has been repaired, they ship it back to you -- and not to your widow.

The Wingmasters and 700's from the 60's 70's 80's 90's were some of the best. Current production is garbage. Remington is a household name to most outdoorsman, it's a shame they've run their name into the ground

The Remington RP9 is one of the better full-sized striker-fired pistols on the market today. It has all of the features that shooters demand, is easy to shoot, and easy to shoot well. The RP9 is reliable, accurate, priced right, and made in the USA

I have no idea about its functionality, but this is the ugliest modern firearm I've seen. What the hell were they thinking.
