My grandparents love it. The commercials keep saying how popular of a tv show it is, but I've honestly never heard anyone talk about this show.
I've never seen any of the show but recall a Rolling Stone article (per Google it was from January 2004) and had a friend that read the article and then read a bunch of other stuff about it.
The only people I ever see talking about the show are on here (maybe the movie/TV board) and there was a segment on Sirius radio on opies new show about it. They did say on opies show if they ever find anything they will tell you and that's the only time you need to watch.

At the very least I think it was a ceremonial Templar hangout in the 16-1700's and probably a popular stopping point for pirates too.

The actual history of the search itself actually suggests that there is no treasure.
They have COMPLETELY dug up and re-dug that entire spot, the "money pit" (and I mean the entire area, like 100 feet around it) to something like 50 feet BELOW where the treasure was supposed to be. Found nothing. A guy named Dunfield did in the 50s and 60s.
Everything they find from this point will be remains from a past dig.
edit: 100 foot radius.

100 square feet is the size of a small apartment bedroom.

if the dropped the whole Templar Knight angle, no one would watch it.. But, I enjoy it because it involved my family

Complete bullshite for entertainment value. There is some history there on the island, but no treasure. I mean at the end of the day how the hell could a someone with just shovels and picks back in the 1700-1800's dig that far down when people with the latest technology and machines can't even get down that far?
But it does have my 8 year old glued in front of the tv all day which is relaxing.

Why not just do 3D seismic and see exactly what's down there? Guess there wouldn't be a show then...

I watched the first season but lost interest. You could tell they were dragging everything out. They would chase every lead from whoever showed up on the island. Then the crappy equipment they would use was laughable. I think they tried to drain a swamp with a pump from Home Depot.

It's an interesting Legend.I find any of the legends about the Templars, the Holy Grail, etc.,very interesting.
I think Friday the 13th(being an unlucky day) has to do with Prince/King Phillip of France having the Templar Knights seized, and for the most part, burned at the stake on a Friday the 13th.
The Legend goes that all of the Templar's treasure and Holy Artifacts were not found. And that they set sail on a number of ships that they possessed.
Interesting lore.
eta: An old man with a Metal Detector could probably walk the Island and find more than they have.

We found a coin! We need to fly to meet with an expert coin collector in Miami!

You're wrong. Dunfield never dug to the depth where the treasure was supposed to be at the Money Pit. For those that don't know, there was a stone slab found 90 feet down that, when translated, said that there was treasure 40 feet further down. Every attempt to reach it was disrupted by flooding.

I do think that the "flood tunnels" could just be the water table and the coconut fiber at Smith's Cove could just be from an old shipwreck but I still want to see for sure if anything is at the bottom of the money pit because there is enough evidence to suggest there could be.

Is like to know just who owns that island and let's these nut jobs dig all over it. Pics I have seen in the past tthere is equipment and holes all over that place.

How are ancient people supposed to dig that far down when people in modern times have so much trouble? If they're digging with shovels, water will come in. Did they have magical pumps that could push 140ft of water?

I watched it for a little while, I couldn't take the terrible narration. Fun drinking game, every time the narrator asks a question, drink.

Although I find the show interesting deep down I know if they found anything substantial it would have already been leaked to the press by now. Kind of like Finding Bigfoot, if you have to watch the show to see if they find it..,,,,,you already know they didn't.

I love that show. It is about two brothers who loved the idea of chasing treasure. What kid didn't grow up wishing to find treasure? That's what it's about for me -- the thrill of the seeking and the hope of finding something remarkable. Better escape from the stresses of life than consuming poisonous substances.
