Anyone know the history behind this? I've seen bits and pieces of the reality show, but I know how staged they are even though there are a few facts I'm sure. Seems really interesting but would seem like if would be getting a little more attention if they were really stumbling upon historical items of significance.

My dad summed it up the best:

"Why keep watching the show season after season when they never find the shite they're looking for!"

He was correct.

I have maybe watched a total of 3 hours of the show since it's been on. My grandparents love it. The commercials keep saying how popular of a tv show it is, but I've honestly never heard anyone talk about this show.

I was always curious how much dough those guys rolled into trying to find that stuff.

They have found evidence that the island has been visited for possibly a few hundred years. The discovery of an old Spanish coin, and remnants of coconut fibers that came from the tropics are intriguing. However I doubt they will find any real treasure but I will watch it anyway.

To be fair, they are just beginning to dig in the money pit.

It's a very interesting island. There's too many details to list here. Y'all should check out the Wikipedia page.

Don't forget, they just found a long plank in the swamp, dating back to 1685 or so.

A plank for pete's sake!

This season they are digging where they drilled a core sample of what could be the edge of a wooden chamber lined with cement 130 feet down.

Also, I thought it was either fricking stupid of the divers to dive through that tunnel or that it was all a gimmick.

The younger brother created a lot of success and wealth within the energy sector. The older brother was a burnout mailman.
