He is 100% correct. The product quality is down this year. People blaming Kapernick were just looking for an excuse. Look at these games Sunday.

Arizona @ Atlanta
NY Giants @ Cleveland
Los Angeles @ New Orleans
San Francisco @ Miami
Seattle @ Tampa Bay

For an average fan like me with no real NFL team, those Ganges are shite. I'm not watching

I hate when people blame the refs for decline ratings in the NFL. It isn't the refs fault for all the flags. They take orders from Goodell and the owners. Every fricking thing that has killed the ratings is on Goodell.

Make your bye week before your Thursday night game. I don't know why this is so difficult.

We blame Goodell for the rule changes, but the refs for enforcing said stupid rules inconsistently. I wouldn't call out the rules for enforcing the stupid rules, if they were enforcing said stupid rules consistently in all games against all teams and players. It's a combination of bad rules and unequal enforcement. Why is it that when two players commit the same action in pass defense, it's generally a penalty if they play for New Orleans or San Francisco, but it's not a penalty if they play for Pittsburg or Seattle? Why are some offensive lines Bama-esqe in never getting flagged for holding while others are flagged constantly despite both committing holds?

Horrible officiating is a big reason to me people are tired of the bullshite. The huge advantage offense has over defense in every facet is old.

And actually most important, it just feels like the level of play across the league has fallen off. Less and less QBs coming out of college can actually read a defense. College teams rarely run pro concepts and have much more to learn at the next level.

Then we end up with a crappy game between 2 rested teams.

Thursday night football might be the worst idea of all time.

100% agree. Why do we, as fans, accept this? Being able to watch only 3 games for the first two windows on Sunday is bull shite.

quote:

Another issue is that the game is simultaniously over and under exposed. They seriously need to revise their regional broadcasting format. There is no reason why there should be 4 games going on at the same time, but one is only able to watch 1 without spending a ton of money on NFL Sunday Ticket. With College Football, if there are 4 games on TV, I can flip between 4 games. It means that even though College Football has a greater percentage of truly unwatchable blowouts, I'm never stuck with them. I can always pick the best game, resulting in a better experience.

So there's 8 games playing in one time slot and 3 games playing at the next time slot, and I only can watch 3 total games? That needs to change.

I love how when things go wrong in this country with obvious issues and obvious solutions, everyone is scared to talk about it.

It's not good/bad teams/games.

It's entitled pricks bringing political nonsense and lies into the sports arena.

never have cared for the Thursday games. But I also think Monday Night Football has taken a dive because of cord cutters.

I don't have cable and it hasn't bothered me but I do have an outdoor antenna. I watch a college game on ABC or CBS if i'm at home on Saturdays. Will watch the Saints every week and most of the time every Sunday Night game.

but reading threads on here or lack thereof for the Monday night games and I feel like I'm not missing anything.

I use to be a way bigger football fan. In my opinion both the college and pro game have lost some of the allure that use to have me pumped for the weekends.

its crazy how in the pros they are limiting contact in practices and are definitely trying to take away a lot of the hard hits in the game. And even then guys are still dropping like flies. Some of these teams Madden is talking about probably don't have good depth is all.

no team in the NFL is clearly better than the rest. I mean each team has weakness whether it be defense, bad O-line, bad QB, no running game, crap play from special team (cough Saints), tough schedule.. etc. So in a way that makes it still somewhat interesting but I don't look forward to games the way I use to.

That's funny considering the Cowboys-Redskins game broke the regular season ratings record which dated back to 1995.

it was Thanksgiving and Dallas is having a great year, plus the Redskins are probably gonna challenge for a wild card spot.

when was the last time both of them could say that?

in fact, I think every team that played yesterday had a .500 record or better going into the game. That had to break a streak of some kind. Most of the time the Thanksgiving games are meh.. but the Dallas game and the Lions game were good all the way through pretty much.

i cut the Steelers game off at halftime.

Doesn't this paragraph basically contradict the premise of the OP then?

in a way, yes.

but we're talking about Thanksgiving when most people have the day off. And in fairness, I doubt a lot of those viewers tuned in every play.

I'm sure there were a ton TV sets with the game on while everybody feasted in another room.

me, I drank a few beers and watched it all. I enjoyed it but I could see where the ratings could be overblown too.

Wasn't the Cowboys vs Redskins game the highest rated game in fox history?

This is your opening statement? Sunday is also a day most people have off... and the ratings are not just good, but good compared to other Thanksgivings.

The records make a big difference, but more than anything an exciting Cowboys team appears to be saving the NFL this year

no, I've had other posts in the thread.

the Dallas game was highly viewed, yes. As said before, their great season combined with Washington's pretty good season and boom.. you have two teams that make the game intriguing. The Lions were fighting for 1st place in their division and that game held up until the end. Both of the teams had winning records but do you think people cared as much?? Doubt it. I'm talking about the totality of the day.

Vikings-Lions= competitive game had more defense involved.

Cowboys-Redksins= both teams offenses had little trouble. Redskins kicker misses two FG's, Dez/Josh Norman turd the game up. But the Dallas rookie duo continues to impress.

Steelers-Colts= boring as frick unless you had Bell or Antonio Brown on your fantasy team.

if they end up playing New England in the Super Bowl then yes, it will have a huge record breaking draw no doubt. I think it has more to do with Prescott and Zeke tearing it up than the Cowboys history or nostalgia or whatever you want to call it.

to see two rookies doing so well in the same offensive backfield is rare.

I can't stand this either. It's been happening forever. Schedule is way too unbalanced. Why the hell is there 10-11 early games every Sunday, but only 2-3 late games? Why is it so difficult to push some of those early games to the later time slot?
