Yes. Even with a raise won't guarantee LSU retaining him.

That would be huge. I am officially anxious since the news has broke in Austin.

I would think that Texas will try to go after the best DC's in the nation and Aranda certainly is top 3 for sure. I'm sure Aranda's agent will try to get him a significant raise out of the current situation for sure.

look, it's a competitive world. hopefully, we have some buy out in his contract as he has a 3 yr deal (I think). aranda's stock has gone thru the roof by virtue of his coming to LSU with the athletes we have. he would be crazy to leave at this point. we tripled his pay and he's getting ready to get another large bump.
in all likelihood we're good with him staying but if he leaves so be it. I doubt it would be for money.

Why wouldn't he take Todd Orlando? He's been very good with him at Houston

But Ole Miss thinks THEY'RE getting Aranda...

Pruitt ain't getting a HC gig. At least not at a school that does background checks.

He could, but it's also a big time job with big time money. He'll likely get the checkbook to work with hiring assistants.
He's only worked with him 2 years at Houston, hardly a relationship equal to the one Herman and Aranda share according to some here over the last few months. Whereas Fisher has known Charles Kelly since the 90s( )
And there's also a chance because of his performance at Houston, he could get a shot as a HC there or somewhere else.

LINKAranda, hired away from Wisconsin three weeks ago to replaceKevin Steele, is set to make $1.2 million this year. His salary increases by $50,000 each year – $1.25 million in 2017 and $1.3 million in 2018. ... Aranda’s deal ends on March 31, 2019, giving him the longest contract of any current LSU assistant. He’s the only one with a contract that spans more than two years. As FoxSports.com reported three weeks ago, Aranda’s contract does not include a clause tying him to head coach Les Miles. Every other assistant’s contract would end six months after Miles was terminated or left his job. Aranda does not have to pay a buyout if he leaves for a head coaching job. He must pay 50 percent of his remaining salary if he leaves for a non-head coaching job in the Southeastern Conference or “a Football Bowl Subdivision football program within a 500 miles radius of LSU,” the contract reads. He must pay 20 percent of his remaining salary if her were to leave for any other non-head coaching job.
So Aranda/Texas will owe us $1.275 million

No they dont. You're the only clown that thinks that.

Aranda's best shot at a constant upswing of success leading to a P5 head coaching offer in the next 1-2 years is staying here with a talented defense that already knows his system. If that's what he wants, I think he stays. If he wants to be a career DC, then I would be worried, but we don't know that.
As good as he is, Texas' defense is a total overhaul in a league that will pile up numbers on him while he gets them going. It could be mid-way through year two before they start to look like what he built here in half that time. Again, it comes down to what his career trajectory is, but I most of these guys who can want to lead a program at some point. The safest and fastest path to that is staying right where he is.

IMO, He would likely take the guy he has at Houston right now, who isn't bad.
quote:
Orlando comes to Houston from Utah State where he served two seasons as defensive coordinator, leading a defense that ranked 12th nationally in scoring defense in 2014 (19.7 points per game) and seventh nationally in 2013 (17.1 points per game).
His attacking defense was fourth nationally with 49 sacks on the year and second nationally with 114 tackles for loss as Utah State advanced to back-to-to-back bowl games during Orlando’s stay in Logan, Utah. In his two-year span with USU, Orlando’s defense ranked eighth nationally with 59 turnovers, ranking 10th nationally in 2014 with 30 turnovers including 19 interceptions, a number that ranked eighth-best nationally.

What makes you think that?

Texas can pay $1.275 million out of their sock drawer.
Posted on 11/20/16 at 6:15 pm to sheek
Of course they can, I'm just sayin we're not left completely empty-handed... If he leaves we've got an extra $1 million to throw at our next DC.
I don't think he'd leave though.. His best/quickest Route to a HC spot is through a Championship team, and he's got a much better shot at getting a championship of some sort faster at LSU than at Texas.
